Overview

With turbocharged power, plus sporty styling and high build quality, the all-new 2025 Acura ADX will be popular with buyers looking for a fun-to-drive premium small SUV. The Acura ADX is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 3 trim levels. The most popular style is the A-Spec Package AWD, which starts at $41,350 and comes with a 1.5L I4 Turbo engine and All Wheel Drive. This ADX is estimated to deliver 25 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on the highway.

Overall Assessment

The all-new 2025 Acura ADX is the first small crossover from the premium brand. When it hits the market early next year, it will be Acura’s smallest and most affordable SUV, joining the larger Acura RDX, all-electric ZDX, and three-row MDX in the lineup. Acura’s timing is looking good. The small premium SUV class is blowing up with the growing popularity of the Audi Q3, BMW X1, Volvo XC40, Lexus UX, and Mercedes-Benz GLB. Acura hasn’t yet released many details about the ADX, but it’s expected to share its basic size, chassis, and body structure with the Honda HR-V. This is because Acura is part of American Honda and most of its models share a platform with a Honda model. These twins under the skin include the Acura Integra and Honda Civic, Acura RDX and Honda CR-V, and Acura MDX and Honda Pilot. Many share engines as well, and we expect the ADX to be powered by Honda’s smooth and refined turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and continuously variable automatic transmission. This combination is found under the hood of several models, including the Honda Accord, Civic, Integra, and CR-V. Disappointingly, a hybrid or all-electric version of the ADX is not expected, at least not in the first year of production. Acura's all-wheel-drive system will be available. We also like Acura’s sporty design language and expect the ADX to keep the brand’s current styling theme that blends curves with hard edges and oversized wheels and tires. We also expect a sporty interior design, much like the Integra’s, with a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system.

Overview

The 2025 Audi SQ6 e-tron gives spirited drivers an all-electric option that performs on a noticeably higher level than its Q6 e-tron stablemate. The Audi SQ6 e-tron is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 3 trim levels. The most popular style is the Premium Plus SUV, which starts at $78,595 and comes with an Electric engine and All Wheel Drive. This SQ6 e-tron is estimated to deliver 96 MPGe in the city and 82 MPGe on the highway.

Overall Assessment

For 2025, Audi fills in a notable gap in its electric vehicle lineup with the all-new Q6 e-tron. It's a compact SUV, which is somewhat rare among luxury EVs. While the Q6 is an excellent choice for most drivers, those who desire more performance and excitement have their own variant: the 2025 Audi SQ6 e-tron. Both models sit between the smaller Q4 e-tron and the larger Q8 e-tron, but the SQ6 makes a stout 483 horsepower compared to the Q6's 422 hp, and its sporty suspension is tuned for athletic cornering. In the next year or so, a raucous RSQ6 e-tron is expected with even more performance.

Among the new SQ6 e-tron's few rivals, there is one that was developed alongside it. The new Porsche Macan Electric shares a lot of the Audi's underpinnings but costs quite a bit more and offers more sporty variants. The Genesis Electrified GV70 offers decent performance, but doesn't match the Germans when it comes to luxury and refinement. Other competitors are larger and pricier alternatives: the BMW iX and Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV.

At least for now, the Audi SQ6 e-tron enjoys an advantageous position among luxury EVs. It returns a respectable amount of range, charges quicker than almost anything else, and is suitably practical for everyday use.

See owner reviews for Audi SQ5.

Overview

Audi's SQ5 blends blistering performance with a luxurious, tech-laden interior, making it a compelling choice for driving enthusiasts who refuse to compromise on comfort or everyday usability. While some rivals might offer a slight edge in outright acceleration, the SQ5's overall package is tough to beat. The Audi SQ5 is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 3 trim levels. The most popular style is the Premium Sportback, which starts at $63,095 and comes with a 3.0L V6 Turbo engine and All Wheel Drive. This SQ5 is estimated to deliver 19 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway.

Overall Assessment

One of the original high-performance luxury SUVs, the Audi SQ5 continues to be a benchmark for the segment. Audi injects a potent dose of power into its popular Q5, with the 2025 SQ5 boasting a 349-horsepower turbocharged engine (up 148 hp from the Q5) that propels it to 60 mph in a brisk 4.7 seconds. Sharper handling and stronger brakes complement the engine upgrade, all while retaining Audi's legendary Quattro all-wheel-drive system. A Sportback body style adds a touch of style for those who prioritize aesthetics.

Beyond its athletic prowess, the SQ5 delivers luxury in spades. Typical Audi elegance graces the interior, with impeccable fit and finish throughout. Spacious and comfortable seating for five, along with a generous cargo area, solidify the SQ5's daily-driver credentials. Driver assistance tech rounds out the package. While the SQ5 offers a compelling blend of performance, luxury, and practicality, it faces stiff competition from established rivals like the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, and Porsche Macan, each offering its own take on the high-performance luxury crossover formula.

Overview

Cadillac is clawing its way back into the true luxury segment with vehicles such as the 2025 Vistiq. It isn’t the class leader in most categories, but it is well up there and at a price that beats most of the competition. The Cadillac VISTIQ is a 7-seater vehicle that comes in 4 trim levels. The most popular style is the Sport, which starts at $79,590 and comes with an Electric engine and All Wheel Drive.

Overall Assessment

Cadillac continues pursuing General Motors’ EV agenda with its fourth all-electric model, the three-row, six- or seven-seat Vistiq SUV, slated to launch in the second quarter of 2025 as a ’26 model.

The powerful and spacious midsize vehicle is aimed at luxury buyers who prefer a domestic brand, or want to save a few dollars versus most competitive imports.

In Cadillac’s EV lineup, it follows the hulking Escalade IQ SUV and the built-to-order Celestiq ultra-luxury sedan, both arriving in late 2024, and the two-row Lyriq SUV, which launched in mid-2022.

Design-wise, the Vistiq is a fairly standard slab-sided two-box SUV, relieved with some interesting sculpting on the side panels and a slight rearward curve to the roofline. It has that familiar Cadillac face with thin vertical stacks of LED headlights flanking a shield-shaped grille that sports an illuminated Cadillac emblem.

Cadillac once again goes to its Ultium platform and battery for the Vistiq’s underpinnings and power pack. It uses a 12-module Ultium battery that Cadillac says will give it 300 miles of driving range despite its size. (Official numbers aren’t out yet). Caddy says all four trim levels will use the same dual-motor powertrain with electronic all-wheel drive, capable of delivering 615 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque when the red Velocity Max button on the steering wheel is engaged. Cadillac claims a zero-to-60 mph time of 3.7 seconds for the Vistiq in Velocity Max mode, dropping to 4.7 seconds when that red button is left alone.

The Vistiq’s closest cousin in the Caddy pantheon is the internal combustion XT6 SUV, which has about the same passenger space but 20% less cargo space. The Vistiq is 6 inches longer than the XT6, can tow more, and deliver more than twice the maximum horsepower.

The luxury three-row electric SUV segment is a pretty small one, so the Vistiq doesn't have much direct competition. Pricing for all trims hasn’t been announced, but Cadillac says the base price, including destination fees, will be $78,790. We expect pricing will soar into the high $80,000s or even the low $90,000s. Most of the Vistiq’s probable competitors start in the low $80,000s although the Rivian R1S is a few thousand less and offers actual off-road capability.

Likely competition in size and price includes the Lucid Gravity, Rivian R1S, Volvo EX90, and the aging Tesla Model X. While not a luxury brand, Kia fields a highly competitive three-row electric SUV with its EV9, and some shoppers might find a fully loaded version to be just as pleasing as the Vistiq at a lower cost. Likewise, the new three-row [Volkswagen ID.

Buzz](/overview/volkswagen/id-buzz/) doesn’t offer the luxury or power of the Vistiq, but the modern version of the iconic microbus makes a statement that shoppers might find hard to ignore. Mercedes-Benz offers a pair of three-row electrics in the EQB SUV and EQS SUV. But they bracket the Cadillac in size and pricing, so neither is directly competitive.

Cadillac’s come a long way in recent years and its EVs can compete with the best in the luxury and near-luxury segments. We’ve not yet been able to spend any time on the road with the Vistiq and will have to come back with driving and overall competitiveness impressions closer to its launch date.

The Vistiq is a global model. In the U.S., it will be available at Cadillac dealerships in all 50 states.

Overview

Audi's electric evolution continues with a new, midrange SUV. The Q6 e-tron is packed with the latest technology and delivers all the comfort and refinement expected from the brand. The Audi Q6 e-tron is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 3 trim levels. The most popular style is the Premium Plus quattro, which starts at $71,895 and comes with an Electric engine and All Wheel Drive. This Q6 e-tron is estimated to deliver 105 MPGe in the city and 93 MPGe on the highway.

Overall Assessment

Audi gained an advantage over its German rivals when it introduced the original e-tron SUV in 2019, beating the BMW iX and Mercedes-Benz EQE to market by almost three years. In the time since, Audi has kept its momentum strong. That initial e-tron, recently renamed the Q8 e-tron, is the largest all-electric SUV in Audi's lineup. It was joined in 2022 by the smaller Q4 e-tron, which is closely related to the Volkswagen ID.4. Audi uses even numbers in its EV names and odd numbers for its internal-combustion vehicles).

The newest all-electric addition, the 2025 Audi Q6 e-tron, fills the size and price gap between the Q4 e-tron and Q8 e-tron. It's worth noting that the size differences between Audi's e-tron SUVs are more like half-steps than the typical jump from a compact to midsize SUV. The Q6 is built on an all-new platform shared with the Porsche Macan Electric.

Based on the specs, things are looking up for the 2025 Audi Q6 e-tron. It's estimated to return 307 miles on a single charge and is capable of some of the industry's quickest DC fast-charge rates. Audi's main competitors don't currently offer a direct rival; the BMW iX and Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV are closer in size to the Q8 e-tron.

See owner reviews for Cadillac OPTIQ.

Overview

The new Cadillac Optiq is loaded with luxury touches and high-end technology. That, and its sporty looks, should make it a standout entry-level luxury crossover. The Cadillac OPTIQ is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 4 trim levels. The most popular style is the Luxury 1, which starts at $54,390 and comes with an Electric engine and All Wheel Drive. This OPTIQ is estimated to deliver 111 MPGe in the city and 94 MPGe on the highway.

Overall Assessment

Cadillac’s entry-level luxury EV, the 2025 Optiq compact crossover, is designed to attract new customers who might otherwise turn to Audi or Volvo for an upscale, all-wheel-drive EV.

The five-seat Optiq will occupy the bottom row of Cadillac’s EV pyramid, which ultimately will be topped by the $300,000-plus Celestiq sedan. Slotting between the two models are the Lyriq two-row crossover, upcoming Vistiq three-row SUV, and the super-sized Escalade IQ.

A starting price near $54,000 puts the Optiq in the same range as similarly sized entry-luxe all-wheel-drive electric crossovers such as the Audi Q4 e-tron, Volvo EX40 and its EC40 Sportback sibling, and the three-row Mercedes-Benz EQB. The Genesis GV60 and upcoming Polestar 4 rear-wheel-drive models also are competitors in price, although moving up to the all-wheel-drive versions takes them out of the race.

Cadillac says the Lyriq will offer more cargo space than its rivals, along with more range and power than almost all likely competitors.

Though it sits slightly taller than all rivals except the EQB, the Qptiq is longer overall and has a longer wheelbase than the rest for a lean, sporty appearance.

The Lyriq won’t replace Caddy’s conventionally powered XT4 entry-level SUV, so buyers will still have a gasoline option in this segment.

Production of the 2025 Cadillac Optiq is scheduled to begin this fall.

Overview

With sleek styling, a gorgeous interior, plenty of utility, and excellent performance, the new 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe brings strong competition to the European brands. The Genesis GV80 Coupe is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 2 trim levels. The most popular style is the 3.5T e-SC, which starts at $87,245 and comes with a 3.5L V6 S/C and Turbo engine and All Wheel Drive. This GV80 Coupe is estimated to deliver 18 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highway.

Overall Assessment

The Genesis brand was introduced less than 10 years ago — barely a blink compared to Mercedes-Benz, Cadillac, and Lexus — and in that short time, the luxury arm of the Hyundai Motor Group has become a significant competitor. It was just a few years ago that Genesis joined the lucrative midsize SUV market with the flagship GV80. This year, the Korean automaker is adding the sleek 2025 GV80 Coupe.

Front styling is similar to that of the revised 2025 Genesis GV80 SUV, but the Coupe features a special version of the familiar Crest grille with a dual-layered design and the brand's signature two-line headlights. However, the GV80 Coupe has a distinct profile with a roofline that smoothly flows from the top of the windshield to the custom rear spoiler. Available 22-inch wheels and quad exhaust outlets add to the sporty look.

All-wheel drive comes standard on the GV80 Coupe, which gets two engine options: a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that powers the top-level GV80 SUV and a version that adds a 48V electric supercharger, bumping output from 375 horsepower to 409 hp. The supercharged powerplant is now the most powerful engine in the Genesis lineup.

The GV80 Coupe's stylish cabin is highlighted by a 27-inch-wide OLED screen that houses the driver display and infotainment screen. Seats are trimmed in soft Nappa leather, and there's plenty of space for passengers and cargo. The GV80 Coupe is an excellent luxury SUV coupe option, bringing strong competition to a niche market dominated by established European brands. These include the BMW X6, Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, and Porsche Cayenne Coupe.

See owner reviews for Volvo EX90.

Overview

The new all-electric 2025 EX90 appears to be an excellent flagship for the Volvo lineup and a worthy competitor in the large luxury electric SUV category. The Volvo EX90 is a 7-seater vehicle that comes in 2 trim levels. The most popular style is the Ultra Twin Motor Performance 7-Seater, which starts at $90,640 and comes with an Electric engine and All Wheel Drive. This EX90 is estimated to deliver 86 MPGe in the city and 82 MPGe on the highway.

Overall Assessment

Volvo is transitioning into an electric-only automaker, and the 2025 EX90 will be its new flagship. The three-row, seven-seat, full-size SUV sits on the company’s first EV-exclusive platform, and it is slightly bigger and has more technology than the present XC90 top model. The company plans to launch one new EV each year, with the goal of making all new Volvos electric by 2030. The EX90 can be pre-ordered now and goes on sale in early 2024. Next up will be the recently unveiled 2025 Volvo EX30, a subcompact crossover that will be Volvo’s smallest and least expensive SUV. It will hit dealerships in the last half of 2024.

The EX90, expected to start at just under $80,000, is truly a luxury SUV. It most likely will compete with other high-end, all-wheel-drive electric SUVs including the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, Rivian R1S, BMW iX, the upcoming Lucid Gravity, and three-row versions of the aging Tesla Model X.

The upcoming Polestar 3 SUV from Volvo’s sister all-EV company is smaller than the EX90, but it shares the same platform, albeit with different tuning and suspension set-up. The 2025 EX90 isn’t as big or powerful as most of its rivals, but it comes close and is priced lower than all but the Rivian. It also brings updated safety and driver-assist technologies, including software and hardware readiness for potential hands-free highway driving. Volvo says it will be the safest vehicle it has ever made.

A pair of dual-motor, all-wheel-drive systems will be available, and Volvo says the EX90 will be capable of 300 miles of range or more.

Inside it is somewhat Tesla-like, with a clean dashboard dominated by a large, vertically mounted touchscreen. Outside it is very Volvo-like, with signature Thor’s Hammer headlights, a big Volvo logo, vertical taillights, and slab-like sides with muscular rear haunches. One clue to its role as Volvo’s tech leader is in the bulge at the top center of the windshield. It holds an array of laser imaging, detection, and ranging (lidar) sensors that can “see” in total darkness and are used to improve the accuracy of the EX90’s lane and obstacle detection systems.

Deliveries begin in early 2024 and Volvo says pre-order customers can configure their cars later this year with priority delivery. We expect the EX90 to be available in all states but with initial supplies skewed toward EV-friendly areas such as Southern California, the Silicon Valley and San Francisco Bay areas, the Pacific Northwest, Eastern Seaboard, Colorado, and Texas. The EX90 will be built at Volvo’s South Carolina plant and those priced below $80,000 will be eligible for the federal clean vehicles tax credit of up to $7,500 — if their battery content meets requirements.

Volvo debuted the EX90 months before production starts, and has been vague about what features will be standard versus optional. It also hasn’t provided any models for driving evaluation. We’ll wait to evaluate the EX90's overall competitiveness until we drive it and get more details.

Overview

Acura’s first all-electric vehicle, the 2024 ZDX, is an impressive entry in the segment. It offers a spacious interior, a comfortable ride, and many standard features. It’s not as plush as we’d like for a luxury EV, but it’s still plenty competitive. The Acura ZDX is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 2 trim levels. The most popular style is the A-Spec Package AWD, which starts at $69,850 and comes with an Electric engine and All Wheel Drive. This ZDX is estimated to deliver 94 MPGe in the city and 80 MPGe on the highway.

Overall Assessment

Acura’s first all-electric SUV, the 2024 ZDX is a competent and comfortable luxury crossover. Powering the ZDX is a 102 kWh battery that’s paired with one or two electric motors. With the single-motor setup, the ZDX optimizes range, offering an EPA-estimated 313 miles between charges. With the dual-motor configuration and in the high-performance Type S trim, the ZDX offers less range but much more power, faster acceleration, and a more dynamic driving experience. It’s the most powerful SUV Acura has ever produced. With sleek, modern styling, lots of room on the inside, and a comfortable ride, the ZDX has a lot to offer.

The ZDX has a quiet cabin and is enjoyable to drive, but its rivals have a significant advantage in some areas. The ZDX is pretty large, which means it easily holds five adults. But rival EV SUVs, such as the Kia EV9, have similar exterior dimensions and provide three rows of seating. Then there’s the issue of luxury, where the ZDX isn’t quite a class leader. Cabin materials, even on the top-trim ZDX Type S, are a bit underwhelming. There’s plenty of modern tech and a long list of standard safety features, but competitors like the BMW iX and Genesis Electrified GV70 feel a bit more upscale inside. Finally, range, especially on the high-performance Type S model, is below what we’d want in a big family SUV like the ZDX. None of these issues are deal-breakers, though, and we’d still advise shoppers to take a close look at the 2024 Acura ZDX.

Overview

The all-electric 2025 Maserati Grecale Folgore has the alluring style and thrilling performance to live up to its iconic brand heritage. The Maserati Grecale Folgore is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 1 trim levels. The most popular style is the AWD, which starts at $121,290 and comes with an Electric engine and All Wheel Drive. This Grecale Folgore is estimated to deliver 80 MPGe in the city and 70 MPGe on the highway.

Overall Assessment

All-electric models have been slow to materialize from Italy’s swanky auto brands, but Maserati is jumping into the game ahead of Ferrari and Lamborghini. The 2025 Maserati Grecale Folgore is its second EV and its first all-electric SUV. Folgore is Italian for lightning and Maserati-speak for battery electric. The 550-horsepower Grecale Folgore is a battery electric-powered version of the brand’s midsize Grecale SUV, which debuted in 2023, and it joins the 818-hp GranTurismo Folgore in Maserati showrooms. With its handsome Italian design, techy cabin, and standard all-wheel drive, the five-passenger Grecale Folgore is well-equipped to take on the Porsche Macan EV, BMW iX, Audi SQ8 e-tron, and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV. The Tesla Model X basically invented this class and still offers the most seating capacity, power, and driving range.

Maserati says the Grecale Folgore can hit 60 mph in 4 seconds, which is a bit quicker than the Audi and Mercedes. Maserati hasn’t released any estimated driving range numbers for the Grecale Folgore, but with its 105.0-kWh battery capacity, we expect its driving range to fall below the magic 300-mile mark. That's behind the class leaders, namely the less expensive BMW iX, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, and Tesla Model X.

Overview

The 2025 Lincoln Nautilus is a genuinely plush luxury SUV with eye-popping tech and an available hybrid powertrain that’s more refined than most. It’s bound to surprise you. The Lincoln Nautilus is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 3 trim levels. The most popular style is the Reserve, which starts at $64,775 and comes with a 2.0L I4 Turbo engine and All Wheel Drive. This Nautilus is estimated to deliver 21 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway.

Overall Assessment

It’s hard to climb into the 2025 Lincoln Nautilus and not say, “wow.” Beyond its squircle of a steering wheel and just below the windshield is a vibrant display that stretches from pillar to pillar. There are four design schemes with five customizable panels that feature big, easily read fonts and graphics. Controlling it is an 11.1-inch touchscreen that’s easy to reach and mercifully easy to use. That point is key, because as eye-popping as that digital acreage is, it doesn’t overwhelm or distract. In fact, we found it kept our eyes closer to the road without blinding them with shocking brightness.

There’s more to the Nautilus than its distinctive and successful tech experience. The rest of the interior is genuinely luxurious, especially in its Reserve and Black Label trims, and provides loads of space in the back for people and their stuff. Standard feature content is better than most, and many luxury brands don’t offer something akin to the standard BlueCruise hands-free highway driving-assist system.

The driving experience impresses, too. The Reserve and Black Label include an adaptive suspension that provides old-school Lincoln levels of wafting ride comfort in its Normal drive mode. Engage the Excite sport mode, and it firms up to provide impressive body control along with tighter, more responsive steering on a winding road. It’s not fun, but this dual nature is appreciated. So is the available hybrid powertrain. Not only is it powerful, but it’s surprisingly quiet, keeping the cabin free from the droning typically associated with its type of setup.

All told, the 2025 Lincoln Nautilus is a midsize luxury SUV that deserves your attention. It’s not cheap, but nothing about it indicates it should be. Those looking at the Lexus RX hybrid models should pay particular notice, and those considering a BMW X5 or Mercedes-Benz GLE should find the Nautilus to be a pleasant surprise. Before thinking that you’d also be supporting “the home team,” though, note that the Nautilus is built in China. Some may not care about that, some will, but it seems like an unexpected fact worth mentioning.

Overview

On paper and in pictures there’s an awful lot to like about the 2025 Alfa Romeo Tonale plug-in hybrid. Unfortunately, its unrefined powertrain, blah driving experience, and cramped interior are outsized drawbacks. The Alfa Romeo Tonale is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 3 trim levels. The most popular style is the Plug In Hybrid EAWD, which starts at $47,990 and comes with a Plug-In Hybrid 1.3L I4 Turbo engine and All Wheel Drive. This Tonale is estimated to deliver 29 MPG combined.

Overall Assessment

The 2025 Alfa Romeo Tonale has the potential to be a small SUV that satisfies both your practical and emotional side. It’s a plug-in hybrid, boasting an estimated 33 miles of range that should be enough to cover many commutes and around-town errands. Filling up with gas could be rare. It’s also less expensive than other luxury-brand plug-in hybrids despite having abundant equipment. As for the emotional side, it’s an Alfa Romeo. Inside and outside, it’s going to make you feel more than a Lexus NX or Lincoln Corsair will.

But, the Tonale has big-time drawbacks to both its practical and emotional elements. It’s quite small, for starters, with passenger and cargo space that’s on-par with subcompact SUVs — and not especially big ones. The driving experience also isn’t as engaging as you might hope from Alfa Romeo (there’s little reminiscent about the Giulia sport sedan when you’re behind the wheel) or even when compared to other small SUVs.

Worse, though, is the plug-in-hybrid powertrain. It’s fine enough when operating only with its electric motor, but once the engine needs to be fired up, the system becomes far less refined than what you’d experience in other plug-in hybrids. There’s uncouth engine noise, wonky shifts, and a general lack of sophistication.

As a plug-in hybrid, then, the Tonale is unimpressive. As a sporty SUV, ditto. It has a lovely cabin, though, and looks pretty cool, so if you can live with its space and lack of powertrain refinement, it certainly isn’t a boring choice and is priced OK. It’s certainly more interesting than the Dodge Hornet R/T, which is mechanically identical but has different styling applied to the Tonale’s Italian-designed body work.

Overview

The 2025 Maserati Grecale is a stylish luxury SUV with impressive performance and a refined interior. Though pricey and with limited cargo space, it's an appealing choice for those seeking power and exclusivity in a midsize SUV. The Maserati Grecale is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 3 trim levels. The most popular style is the Modena, which starts at $86,495 and comes with a 2.0L I4 S/C and Turbo engine and All Wheel Drive. This Grecale is estimated to deliver 22 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway.

Overall Assessment

The 2025 Maserati Grecale luxury SUV blends Italian style with high-end performance, positioning it as a compelling option in a crowded segment. As Maserati's answer to premium SUVs like the Porsche Macan, BMW X3, and Mercedes-Benz GLC, the Grecale aims to capture the attention of buyers seeking more than just utility. The Grecale distinguishes itself with its distinctive Maserati design, featuring sleek lines, a bold grille, and a refined interior that prioritizes high-quality materials and craftsmanship.

In terms of performance, the Grecale comes with a supercharged and turbocharged four-cylinder engine, delivering an engaging and smooth driving experience. This positions it well against the Macan, known for its dynamic handling, and the X3, which offers a balance of comfort and performance.

While the Grecale excels in performance and design, it has some drawbacks. Its cargo space is smaller than competitors like the Audi Q5, and rear legroom can feel cramped for taller passengers. Additionally, its pricing is higher than that of some rivals, making it a more exclusive choice. Nonetheless, the Grecale stands out for those seeking an SUV that delivers on both luxury and driving pleasure.

Overview

Comfort, quality, and quiet keep the 2025 Lexus RX near the top of the luxury SUV class nearly three decades after its introduction. What it lacks in thrills behind the wheel, the RX makes up for with elegance and a broad range of power and efficiency. The Lexus RX is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 13 trim levels. The most popular style is the RX 350 Premium AWD, which starts at $54,325 and comes with a 2.4L I4 Turbo engine and All Wheel Drive. This RX is estimated to deliver 21 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway.

Overall Assessment

Twenty-seven is an inauspicious number in rock 'n' roll, as it's the age when legends like Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, and Amy Winehouse all left this earthly realm. Heading into its 27th year of production, the Lexus RX has no such worries, though. Recently redesigned for its fifth generation, the RX carries over the traits that have made it one of today's most popular and longest-running luxury crossovers.

The spacious RX straddles the line between compact and midsize SUVs — larger than the former, and a few inches shorter than the latter. Despite its tween status, the RX is spacious, with excellent knee- and headroom, high-quality interior materials, and tasteful trim accents (wood, gloss black, contrast stitching) that give it a luxurious feel. Unlike the previous generation, which offered an extended-length, three-row option, the latest RX is offered only as a two-row five-passenger SUV.

What the RX lacks in cabin and passenger versatility, it makes up for with efficiency. It's available with choices of a regular gas engine, a hybrid engine in two power levels, and a rechargeable plug-in hybrid powertrain with 35 miles of electric range. Ranging from 24 to 36 mpg combined, and from 246 to 366 horsepower depending on configuration, the RX offers something for nearly any driver's needs.

Just don't expect much visceral performance. The RX has always placed comfort above carving and cornering. And while the available F Sport Handling trim livens things up with an adaptive suspension and other hardware designed for sharper agility, the RX is not what you'd call a driver's car. Instead it's a driver's, and passenger's, cocoon. For sportier options, buyers can look to the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and BMW X5, both of which deliver quicker speed and response. The Genesis GV80 is a closer competitor to the Lexus RX, and has essentially borrowed from the early Lexus template of offering a heaping portion of standard features at an attractive price. The Lincoln Nautilus is also a sleeper pick, as it offers an impressive blend of roominess, elegance, and technology.

Overview

Combining on-road elegance with off-road dexterity, the 2025 Land Rover Range Rover stands apart from other luxury midsize SUVs. An available plug-in hybrid broadens its appeal, but the high price of entry may turn off some buyers. The Land Rover Range Rover Sport is a 5-seater vehicle that comes in 5 trim levels. The most popular style is the SE, which starts at $85,550 and comes with a 3.0L I6 S/C and Turbo engine and All Wheel Drive. This Range Rover Sport is estimated to deliver 19 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway.

Overall Assessment

Land Rover's tradition of building luxury SUVs for both on- and off-road performance continues with the 2025 Range Rover Sport, part of the third-generation model introduced two years ago. Slightly smaller than the flagship Range Rover, the Range Rover Sport is built to cosset and comfort. Despite the name, the Sport isn't tuned to carve ribbons of backroad asphalt. That's not to say the Sport doesn't handle well; it does, especially when equipped with Dynamic Response Pro, its anti-roll feature. But as a distilled version of the full-size Rover, lush luxury is what the Sport really does best.

With seating for five, the Range Rover Sport interior features a low, sloping center console and angled dash with a 13.1-inch infotainment touchscreen. The spacious seats and cabin are impeccably trimmed in leather and metal, and the upright seating position and low dash make for plenty of outward visibility — all the better to see off-road obstacles ahead.

Off-road ability is a Range Rover hallmark and the Sport maintains the legacy. An optional two-speed transfer case, adjustable air suspension and multiple electronics control power to all four corners, delivering unflappable traction in rough terrain. A front and underbody camera system and wading-depth monitor also help the driver navigate potential trouble. While the idea of heading into the mud in a six-figure (or near enough) SUV may sound like a contradiction, Range Rover's history of traversing the boggy English countryside in high comfort is key to its appeal.

The Range Rover Sport isn't the only luxury SUV designed to handle tough terrain, though. Rivals include the Lexus LX, Lexus GX, and Mercedes-Benz G-Class. The Lexus models don't have quite the same old-world cachet as the Range, but they're suitably luxurious and supremely capable in the dirt. Even if you never plan to go off-road, the Range Rover Sport still delivers an experience a notch above pavement peers such as the Mercedes-Benz GLE, Porsche Cayenne, and BMW X5.

The Range Rover Sport also distinguishes itself with an available high-performance plug-in hybrid system that delivers impressive performance, boasting an EV-only range of about 51 miles — more than nearly any other plug-in hybrid on the market.
