2023 Audi A8 Review

Overview
Understated, yet distinctive styling. Spacious seating front and rear. Quick, but comfortable around town.
Lacks the brand recognition of its German rivals. Not very engaging to drive.
A well-rounded, top-tier luxury sedan in every respect, the Audi A8's only shortcoming is its lack of recognition compared to rivals.
What's New for 2023
Trims and Pricing
The 2023 Audi A8 is available in only one trim, the A8 L. It's loaded with standard features that make it well equipped right out of the gate.
L
Starting at $87,595, the A8 L comes with a turbocharged V6 engine, all-wheel drive, genuine leather upholstery, heated and cooled 22-way power-adjustable front seats, wood trim, ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof. Notable options include an Executive package that adds distinctive 20-inch wheels, adaptive cruise control, park assist plus, and a heated steering wheel. The Black Optic package adds 21-inch wheels and tires along with black exterior accents, and the Luxury package adds all-wheel steering, ventilated power-adjustable rear seats, heated rear armrests, and additional leather upholstery.

Interior
The Audi A8 has a well-crafted cabin with excellent fit and finish. Materials include soft leather and fine-grain wood. The sedan's five-passenger cabin is roomy, supplying occupants with heated and cooled power-adjustable front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a power-operated panoramic sunroof. Buyers can add heated front and center armrests and massaging front seats. The A8 has most of the same features as its luxury sedan rivals. The BMW 7 Series offers an optional rear entertainment system and heated and cooled rear seats.
Measuring 13 cubic feet, the Audi's trunk is significantly smaller than cargo areas in the 7 Series, Lexus LS, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Safety
Typical for luxury sedans in this class, the Audi A8 has not been evaluated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
Standard safety equipment includes parking sensors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a surround-view camera, automatic emergency braking, and forward-collision warning. A head-up display, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and traffic sign recognition are available.
Audi A8 vs. the Competition
The Audi A8 is a high-end luxury sedan with a smooth ride and impressive interior design. Its overall performance matches flagship sedans from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and other premium luxury brands. With its plush cabin and host of technology and safety features, the A8 has one of the highest starting prices in its class. If cost is a concern, the Lexus LS 500 is priced $10K lower than the Audi. It features a stronger, 416-horsepower engine, a larger trunk, and better gas mileage than the A8.
