2023 Audi e-tron GT Review

Overview
Like its Porsche Taycan cousin, the 2023 Audi e-tron GT offers a sporty grand touring option with tremendous performance that doesn't come at the cost of a jolting, uncomfortable ride. It is low, long, curvy as all get out, and it combines the road manners of a highway cruiser with the handling capabilities of a true sports car. The success of the Tesla Model S, and more recently, the enthusiastic reception for cars such as the Lucid Air, Mercedes-Benz EQS, and BMW i4, shows that there's a market for electric luxury sedans, and Audi's e-tron GT is one of the sportiest and best-looking players in that field.
It has some flaws, though. With only 238 miles of range on a full charge, it trails all competitors but the Porsche Taycan. And while its 800-volt charging system makes it one of the fastest recharging EVs in the market, it still has less than half the range of the segment-leading Lucid Air and nearly 25% less than the Model S Performance. It also is one of the segment's least efficient models in its consumption of electricity. The e-tron GT's sleek styling also costs in the cargo department. It has much less trunk capacity than the Model S, Lucid Air, or Mercedes EQS.
Gorgeous interior. Cushion-compressing acceleration. Poised handling.
Not as much range as some competitors. Tiny trunk. Less rear legroom than rivals.
The Audi e-tron GT was impressive when it debuted last year, and it still offers a beautiful, sporty, and comfortable interior along with booster-rocket acceleration. Downsides are its lack of trunk space and subpar range compared to some competitors.
What's New for 2023
Trims and Pricing
The 2023 Audi e-tron GT is available in two trim levels: Premium Plus and Prestige. The Prestige trim is the more popular of the two and earns our recommendation. We'll explain why.
Premium Plus
The Premium Plus now has a base price of $106,395, including a $1,495 destination fee. That's a $2,500 increase over the 2022 model, but it does come with an extensive list of features.
The standard exterior equipment includes 20-inch alloy wheels fitted with all-season tires, automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, fog lights, heated side mirrors with memory settings, a fixed sunroof, and a hands-free trunk. You get synthetic leather upholstery, along with heated front seats with 14-way power adjustability, keyless entry and ignition, three-zone automatic climate control, a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and ambient lighting.
On the tech front, the e-tron GT comes with satellite radio, a 10.1-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth streaming audio, Wi-Fi, integrated navigation, wireless device charging, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. Standard safety and driver-assist features include blind-spot warning, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, standard cruise control, lane-departure warning, and rear cross-traffic alert.
The options list includes a heated steering wheel and genuine leather upholstery.
The Performance package reinstates the 20-inch summer performance tires that had been standard.
The Executive package now includes heated rear seats and the previously stand-alone LED interior lighting-plus package.
Prestige
The Prestige has a new base price of $112,795 and adds adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, a surround-view camera and lane-keeping assist, remote parking assist, and sound-reducing dual-pane windows.
This trim gets our recommendation because it adds important features like adaptive cruise and lane-keeping.
A new wheel package for the Prestige trim offers 21-inch 10-spoke wheels in a bi-color black finish, replacing the previous platinum gray finish.
Battery and Performance
All e-tron GT sedans use electric motors powered by a 93-kWh battery pack. This setup provides 469 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. Output jumps to 522 hp and 472 lb-ft when the e-tron GT's temporary Boost mode is in effect. Those numbers are impressive. Still, the e-tron GT has less horsepower than the Tesla Model S.
All models are all-wheel drive with a two-speed automatic transmission.
In daily driving, the e-tron GT is engaging yet comfortable. Like the Model S, it's an enjoyable choice for commuters. However, it is biased toward luxury and isn't as sporty and responsive as the Porsche Taycan.
Range and Charging Time
According to Environmental Protection Agency estimates, the e-tron GT can travel for 238 miles on a single charge. That makes it a reasonably practical choice, but rival models offer a longer driving range. For example, the Lucid Air provides up to 520 miles of all-electric driving range. And the Tesla Model S travels for up to 405 miles on a single charge.
To help make up for its range limitation, Audi says the e-tron GT can be charged to 80% of its battery capacity in about 23 minutes using a 270-kW DC fast charger.
Interior
Multiple digital displays give the e-tron GT's cabin a modern look. The materials used are upscale, and the design is bold and contemporary.
The front seats are roomy and comfortable. However, the second row isn't as spacious; at 32.2 inches, the e-tron GT has less rear legroom than the Tesla Model S (just over 35 inches) and the Lucid Air (41 inches).
With a mere 9.2 cubic feet of cargo space, the e-tron GT has the smallest trunk in the class. The Air has a 16.1 cubic-foot trunk. And the hatchback design of the Mercedes-Benz EQS provides 22 cubic feet of rear cargo space. Even the Porsche Taycan has more, at 12.9 to 14.3 cubic feet, depending on trim.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Safety
The 2023 Audi e-tron GT hasn't been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This is not uncommon for vehicles in this category.
The e-tron GT comes with vital safety features. All models have a blind-spot warning system, forward-collision mitigation, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and lane-departure warning. A surround-view camera and lane-keeping assist are optional.
Audi e-tron GT vs. the Competition
The Audi e-tron GT has a posh cabin and rewarding handling. However, it has less cargo space than the Mercedes-Benz EQS and less rear legroom than the Lucid Air. It also has a shorter driving range than the Air and Tesla Model S. But overall, this Audi is an appealing choice if you appreciate impressive performance and distinctive style.
