2023 Audi S7 Review

Overview
The Audi S7 is the high-performance variant of the A7, a midsize luxury sedan with expressive styling and abundant trunk space. It's similar to the A7 but adds upgrades designed to heighten the driving experience. It gets a more powerful engine and comes with larger wheels for sportier handling. The S7 performance sedan offers livable utility, providing more cargo space than the competing Mercedes-Benz CLS. And it's hard to resist the S7's sculpted sheet metal and elegant cabin.
The S7 is hindered by limited rear headroom, a consequence of its stylish, coupe-like roofline. And it has less horsepower than the Cadillac CT5-V or BMW M5. Still, with its refined handling and fashionable design, the S7 stands out in a competitive segment.
Handling is athletic yet forgiving. Opulent cabin and sleek exterior. Excellent trunk space.
Sloping roofline reduces rear headroom. Some competitors have more powerful engines.
The Audi S7 is a blast to drive and comfortable enough to be a pleasant commuter car. It's also one of the roomiest picks in its class for cargo space.
What's New for 2023
Trims and Pricing
The 2023 Audi S7 is available in three trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. The Premium trim is the most popular, but the Premium Plus earns our recommendation. We'll explain why.
Premium
The Premium trim starts at $83,595 (including a $1,095 destination fee). Standard exterior features include 21-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, fog lights, daytime running lights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a power liftgate, and heated power-folding side mirrors. The cabin gets leather upholstery, heated power-adjustable front seats, a second-row trunk pass-through, proximity keyless entry, keyless ignition, multi-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
Audi equips the S7 with attractive audio and tech features. The list includes satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, a 10.1-inch touchscreen, a Wi-Fi hotspot, navigation, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration. Standard safety features include forward-collision mitigation, rear parking sensors, and lane-departure warning.
A surround-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert are optional.
Premium Plus
The Premium Plus trim ($87,795) adds blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera, and rear cross-traffic alert. Options include ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. With its expanded range of safety features, we think this trim will be a pleasing choice for most buyers.
Prestige
The Prestige starts at $91,595. It adds features such as remote parking. Also, this trim is eligible for options like a head-up display and a night-vision system.
Engine and Performance
The 2023 Audi S7 comes with a turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 engine that generates 444 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. That means the S7 has 82 hp more than the Audi A7's top powertrain. But the S7 has less muscle than the BMW M5 or Cadillac CT5-V.
The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels.
The Audi S7 sprints eagerly from a standstill. Though it has less horsepower than some rivals, its acceleration is peppy enough to satisfy. And the ride quality is cushioned and pleasant, making this Audi an ideal choice for daily commutes.
Fuel Economy
Interior
The Audi S7's cabin seats five passengers in premium style. The interior offers opulent quilted leather and genuine wood accents. The materials are high quality, and the design is sleek and refined.
Both seating rows are spacious, but the S7's sloping roofline may make the backseat somewhat cramped for tall passengers. The Audi has less rear headroom than the BMW M5.
The S7 is a top choice if cargo space is a priority. Thanks to its hatchback design, it has 24.6 cubic feet of room for your belongings. That's substantially more than the M5 (14 cubic feet) and Mercedes-Benz CLS (11.9 cubic feet) provide.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Drivers will appreciate the S7's intuitive infotainment interface. It's easy to navigate and has sharp, attractive graphics.
Bluetooth connectivity, satellite radio, navigation, Wi-Fi, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration are standard features. An upgraded sound system is optional.
Audi's S7 comes with a 10.1-inch touchscreen.
Safety
The 2023 Audi S7 hasn't been evaluated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Keep in mind that these organizations don't typically test high-performance variants such as the S7.
Standard safety features include parking sensors, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision mitigation. Blind-spot warning, a surround-view camera, rear cross-traffic alert, and a front night-vision system are optional.
Audi S7 vs. the Competition
The 2023 Audi S7 is short on rear headroom, and the BMW M5 and Cadillac CT5-V have more horsepower. Still, this Audi distinguishes itself as an appealing pick in its class. It will meet your needs if your priorities include enjoyable handling, ample cargo space, and a stylish design.
