The Audi S8 is a high-performance luxury sedan meant to deliver passengers to their destinations with the utmost grace, comfort, and speed. It uses the high-tech Audi A8 as a foundation and adds a twin-turbo hybrid V8, sport suspension, and more. Yet, from the outside, the S8 maintains an elegantly low profile, hiding the muscle beneath. The Audi S8 was completely redesigned for 2020 marking the start of its fourth generation.

Trims and Pricing

The Audi S8 comes in one trim level, and it’s brimming with features. The S8 starts around $130,000, and the exterior includes automatic LED headlights, LED taillights, rain-sensing wipers, power-folding heated mirrors, a panoramic sunroof, a hands-free trunk, Dynamic all-wheel steering, Quattro all-wheel drive, and a predictive active suspension. The cabin contains quilted leather upholstery, heated and cooled front seats, proximity keyless entry, a heads-up display, quad-zone climate control, a heated leather steering wheel, rear sunshade, Bang & Olufsen sound system, 10.3-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and in-car WiFi. The S8 also comes with a full suite of advanced driver safety assists.

Engine and Performance

Power emanates from a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine. It makes 563 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. Like the A8, the S8 uses a mild hybrid system to supplement the powertrain. Using a start/stop system and regenerative braking, this yields some improvements in power and fuel economy. The engine is hooked up to an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. Audi Quattro all-wheel drive comes standard.

Interior

While speed may be the Audi S8’s showpiece, its interior is just as worthy of note. The cabin design is modern and sophisticated. All of the switchgear is top-notch.

Audi builds the S8 in both short- and long-wheelbase versions, but the US only gets the latter. The legroom in both rows is excellent. An optional Executive Rear Seat Comfort Package replaces the middle rear seat with a full-length rear center console that includes seat heat and massage functions and even built-in airbags.
