2020 Audi SQ5 Review

Overview
Fast acceleration; Premium cabin materials; Available digital instrument cluster
Pricier than some rivals; Adaptive cruise control not standard
Compact crossovers offer practicality and ride comfort, and the Audi SQ5 adds sportiness to the equation. The SQ5 separates itself from the standard Q5 SUV thanks to its turbocharged 349-hp engine, which does 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds, according to Audi. The SQ5 comes with all the sleek styling and cutting-edge technology Audi has come to be known for, as well as standard Quattro all-wheel-drive providing cornering grip and all-season traction.
What's New for 2020
Trims and Pricing
The five-seat SQ5 comes in three trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige.
The Premium trim level starts around $53,000 and includes the turbocharged V6 engine, full LED headlights with dynamic range and high-beam assist, LED taillights, a power tailgate, 20-inch wheels, three-zone climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather and Alcantara seating, heated front seats, dual 7-inch driver information and infotainment displays, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 10-speaker sound system.
All new SQ5’s come standard with Audi’s pre sense city safety technology. Features include pedestrian detection at up to 52 mph and automatic emergency braking at up to 25 mph. Rain-sensing wipers and hill descent control are also standard.
The Premium Plus ($57,000) steps things up a notch, with key features like a digital instrument cluster, navigation system with voice controls, wireless phone charging, front and rear parking sensors, and side/rear collision assist systems including rear cross-traffic alert.
The top-of-the-line Prestige model ($61,000) includes all of the above plus adaptive cruise control with a traffic jam assist function, power tilt and telescoping steering column, a head-up display, parking assist, and a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium sound system.
Engine and Performance
All Audi SQ5 models come with a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine that generates 349 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. It’s sufficient for a 0-60 acceleration of 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. The engine runs on premium fuel and employs an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel-drive.
The SQ5 has a 4,400-pound towing capacity. The EPA estimates the SQ5 should return 20 mpg combined.
Interior
For those familiar with modern Audi models, the interior of the SQ5 should come as no surprise. It is refined, elegant, and full of premium materials. The SQ5 comes with more features than the standard Q5, but the cabin design is essentially the same. The tall ride height provides good outward visibility.
The steering wheel is chunky with a flat bottom and media/cruise control functions. The center stack is sleek, with a floating infotainment screen and physical HVAC controls.
