2023 Audi TTS Review

Overview
Do you like the Audi TT but wish it had a stronger powertrain? If so, the Audi TTS may be the perfect match. The TTS is based on the TT but its more potent engine boosts horsepower from 228 to 288, providing eager acceleration. And, like the TT, this model is stylish inside and out, with a sculpted exterior and an elegant cabin. Plus, it comes standard with all-wheel drive to improve traction on slick roads.
The TTS falls short in a couple of areas. It has driver-assist features such as blind-spot monitoring and front and rear parking sensors. But it doesn't have forward-collision warning or automatic emergency braking, which are standard in competing luxury sports cars like the Lexus LC and BMW Z4. Also, cargo space is tight, and the small rear seat isn't suitable for adults. Finally, rivals like the Z4 and Jaguar F-Type have more potent engine options.
Still, if you can live with those weaknesses, the Audi TTS delivers fun-to-drive transportation that looks good from many angles.
Fashionable exterior and cabin design. A blast to drive. Standard all-wheel drive.
Missing key driver-assist features. Rivals have more horsepower. Small rear seat and tight cargo hold due to its compact coupe dimensions.
With a stylish exterior, handsome interior, and engaging handling, the Audi TTS is an appealing compact luxury sport coupe. However, a lack of vital driver aids is a notable shortcoming.
What's New for 2023
Trims and Pricing
The 2023 Audi TTS comes in a single trim: the TTS 2.0T. Happily, this trim comes with a bevy of attractive amenities.
2.0T
Pricing for the TTS 2.0T kicks off at $62,995 (including a $1,095 destination fee). Its standard exterior features include 20-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, fog lights, and heated power-folding side mirrors. Within the cabin, you'll find leather upholstery, heated 12-way power-adjustable front seats, proximity keyless entry, keyless ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
There's also a generous selection of audio and tech features. The list includes satellite radio, a nine-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo, Bluetooth connectivity, and navigation. And on the safety front, all models come with blind-spot monitoring, as well as front and rear parking sensors.
In addition, the TTS offers stand-alone options and some attractive option packages. A Black Optic package ($900) adds black exterior trim, summer performance tires, and red brake calipers. The Competition package ($2,200) brings in a rear wing spoiler, carbon-fiber inlays, and a special steering wheel. The Bronze package ($1,250) includes features such as copper-stitched leather and bronze-colored interior accents.
Engine and Performance
The 2023 Audi TTS comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 288 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Compared to the Audi TT, it has 60 more hp and 22 more lb-ft of torque, but that's less horsepower than in the BMW Z4, Jaguar F-Type, and Porsche 718 Cayman.
A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission sends power to all four wheels. Unfortunately, a manual transmission isn't available. With the 718 Cayman, you can choose between a manual gearbox and a seven-speed automatic.
Keen reflexes and smooth handling make the TTS a delight to drive. However, the 718 Cayman offers more athletic performance.
Fuel Economy
Interior
The Audi TTS coupe's cabin accommodates four people. There's reasonable space in the front row, but the rear seats are only suitable for cargo.
This Audi's cabin looks sporty and modern. The materials are first-rate, and the design is appealing. Still, rivals such as the Jaguar F-Type coupe provide more luxurious interiors.
The TTS has 12 cubic feet of cargo space, less than the F-Type coupe (14.4 cubic feet).
Infotainment and Connectivity
Unlike most modern cars, the 2023 Audi TTS doesn't have an infotainment screen on the dash. Instead, it has a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster that connects you to all its infotainment features. A dial and touchpad located on the center console govern the interface. For comparison, the Porsche 718 Cayman comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system.
Audi equips the TTS with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone connectivity, Bluetooth phone and streaming audio, in-dash navigation, and a premium nine-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo.
Safety
The 2023 Audi TTS hasn't been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). And it hasn't been evaluated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Keep in mind that these organizations don't typically test high-performance variants such as the TTS.
Audi's TTS comes with just blind-spot monitoring and parking sensors by way of driver-assist amenities. The Jaguar F-Type boasts a broader range of standard and available driver-assist features, including forward-collision mitigation, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring.
Audi TTS vs. the Competition
The Porsche 718 Cayman is sportier and more potent than the TTS, and the Jaguar F-Type is more deluxe. But Audi's TTS is a desirable pick, with good fuel economy, gorgeous design, and agreeable driving dynamics.
