The BMW 4 Series is a compact luxury coupe offering an ultimate BMW driving experience yet maintaining comfort and functionality for daily driving. Offered in coupe, gran coupe, and convertible versions, the 4 Series is available in a wide range of build combinations ready to suit your needs.
What's New for 2020
Trims and Pricing
BMW makes the new 4 Series in two trims: 430i and 440i. Standard equipment on the 430i includes premium SensaTec vinyl upholstery, sunroof, 17-inch wheels, foglights, xenon headlights, auto-dimming mirrors, power-adjustable front seats, driver memory settings, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, folding rear seats, 6.5-inch display, electronics interface, Bluetooth connectivity, BMW Assist, and a sound system with a USB/iPod interface, CD player, HD radio and auxiliary input jack. The 440i adds the increased performance of the 6-cylinder engine, a premium audio system, and 18-inch wheels as standard. Three main options packages called Luxury, Sport, and M Sport, each come with a unique wheel design, interior trim materials, upholstery, and colors. Both M Sport and Sport trims come with sport front seats and summer tires. The M Sport package also adds a sport-tuned suspension, a sport steering wheel, and adaptive suspension dampers. The Premium package includes leather upholstery, keyless ignition and entry, power-adjustable lumbar support for the front seats, and satellite radio. The Technology package comes with an iDrive controller, navigation system, an 8.8-inch display, head-up display, a BMW Apps suite of smartphone apps, Bluetooth audio connectivity, and BMW Remote Services. A Lighting package adds automatic high beam control and LED headlights. The Cold Weather package comes with heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. A Driver Assistance package comes with front parking sensors and a rearview camera. The Driver Assistance Plus package comes with the same features, plus blind-spot monitoring, a bird's eye view camera system, side view camera system, and speed limit info. The final package is called the Dynamic Handling package, which adds adaptive suspension dampers and variable-ratio sport steering. Stand-alone options include sport brakes, adaptive cruise control, power rear sunshade, automated parallel parking assist, and a Harman Kardon sound system with sixteen speakers. The BMW 430i starts with an MSRP of about $45,000. The 440i adds about $6,000 to the vehicle’s MSRP. Engine and Performance
430i models use a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The EPA estimates fuel mileage at 23 mpg city, 35 mpg highway, and 27 mpg combined. 440i models come with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that makes 320 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. The EPA fuel mileage estimates are 22 mpg city, 30 mpg highway and 25 mpg combined. Both trim levels come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, but a six-speed manual transmission is available at no extra cost, except for on the 430i xDrive. The automatic transmission is outfitted with a start/stop system designed to eliminate most idling. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available.
Interior
The interior of the 4 Series offers a classy look, functional controls and gauges, excellent material quality, and solid build quality. Buyers are able to customize there interior to suit their needs with materials ranging from SensaTec vinyl up to fine Nappa leather in a wide variety of colors. Interior trim pieces are also available in several choices including textured aluminum and fine wood veneer. The design layout of the interior is driver focus with controls always within immediate reach. The gauges are informative and easy to read with an optional multifunction instrument display offering a sharp and high-tech experience. BMW’s infotainment system is easy to use and the screen quality is high leading the interior of the 4 Series to feel modern.
