What's New for 2020
Trims and Pricing
The BMW 7 Series is sold in six main trim levels: 740i, 740i xDrive, 745e xDrive iPerformance, 750i xDrive , M760i xDrive and Alpina B7 xDrive. The 740e xDrive iPerformance is a plug-in hybrid. All other trim levels are equipped with gas-only engines.
With the base-model 740i, pricing kicks off at roughly $86,500. This model rides on 18-inch alloy wheels that are equipped with run-flat tires, and it comes with a six-cylinder engine. All models are equipped with heated power-adjustable exterior mirrors, and the passenger-side exterior mirror automatically tilts to provide a curb view when the sedan is in reverse. Adaptive LED headlights and daytime running lights illuminate the path ahead.
Within the cabin, keyless entry and ignition are standard, and four-zone climate control is on hand to maintain agreeable temperature in both rows of seating. All models come with an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and there’s a tilt-and-telescoping steering column to help you get cozy behind the wheel. The sedan’s heated power-adjustable front seats and heated steering wheel will keep you warm on cold winter days.
When it comes to tech features, the 7 Series comes standard with a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and satellite radio. The car’s list of standard driver-assistance features includes a rearview camera, parking sensors, a surround-view camera and a blind-spot warning system.
The 740i xDrive adds all-wheel drive to the mix. Pricing starts at about $89,500.
BMW’s 745e xDrive iPerformance has a starting price of roughly $95,500. It comes with a hybrid powertrain for greater fuel efficiency.
With the 750i xDrive, pricing starts at about $102,500. This model is equipped with a turbocharged V8 that’s more powerful than the base engine.
The M760I xDrive starts at around $157,500. This model is equipped with a muscular V12 powerplant.
Pricing for the Alpina B7 starts at around $143,000. This model is equipped with unique design elements, dynamic damper control and a sport suspension.
When it comes to optional amenities, the 2020 BMW 7 Series is available with features such as ventilated front seats, a rear-seat entertainment system and a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround-sound system.
Engine and Performance
The BMW 7 Series 740i and 740i xDrive come standard with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that generates 335 horsepower. The 745e is motivated by a hybrid powertrain with a net output of 389 horsepower. With the 750i, power comes from a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 good for 523 horsepower.
A 601-horsepower, 6.6-liter V12 lives under the hood of the M760i xDrive. With the Alpina B7, power comes from a turbocharged 600-horsepower 4.4-liter V8.
An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard on all trims. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available.
The plug-in hybrid gets 56 MPGe combined with the electric motor in play and 22 mpg combined with just the gas engine in use. With gas-only models, mileage tops out at 22/29 mpg city/highway.
Interior
The BMW 7 series seats five passengers. The cabin offers premium luxury. The overall design is swank, and the materials used are of impeccable quality. Leather upholstery is standard, with premium leather offered as an upgrade.
