What's New for 2020
Trims and Pricing
The BMW X3 comes in four trims: sDrive30i, xDrive30i, xDrive30e, and M40i.
The sDrive30i and xDrive30i have the same feature sets, only differing in their drivetrains. They start at $42,000 and $44,000, respectively, and include exterior features like LED headlights, LED fog lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, run-flat tires, satin aluminum roof rails, chrome exhaust tips, and power-folding and heated side mirrors. Standard interior features are SensaTec leatherette upholstery, anthracite headliner, dark oak wood trim, cargo cover, Apple CarPlay compatability, BMW TeleServices, USB hookups, Bluetooth, a 12-speaker HiFi audio system, HD Radio, 8.8-inch touchscreen, navigation, touchpad controller, voice operation, Dynamic Cruise Control, rear-window defroster, leather-wrapped sport steering wheel with phone and audio controls, memory settings for many vehicle functions, 10-way power front sport seats, 3-zone climate control, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and Park Distance Control. All new X3’s also feature Active Guard driver safety aids, like forward collision warning, automatic low-speed emergency braking, daytime pedestrian detection, and speed limit information.
The sportier M40i comes with Driving Dynamics Control, M Sport exhaust system, sport suspension and brakes, variable sport steering, 19-inch bi-color wheels, Shadowline exterior trim, and an aerodynamic body kit. Inside, the M40i has a unique M sport steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, power tailgate, and automatic high beams. It comes in at about $56,000.
Engine and Performance
The sDrive30i and xDrive30i both employ a turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder engine that runs on premium gasoline. It makes 248 horsepower, and is hooked up to an 8-speed automatic transmission with Sport/manual shift modes, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, and Launch Control.
The M40i gets a turbo 3.0-liter six cylinder. Its TwinPower Turbo features variable valve control and creates 382 horsepower.
The EPA estimates an sDrive30i should get about 25 mpg city/29 highway. The M40i is expected to return 21 mpg city and 27 highway.
Interior
The 2020 BMW X3 comes with a ton of standard features. Compared to mainstream compact crossovers, the luxurious X3 really shows off its spoils. From the 12-speaker sound system to the standard navigation, from 3-zone climate control to wood trim, the small BMW feels premium even without options.
The M40i’s interior feels sportier, with larger seat bolsters and a race-inspired steering wheel. It also comes with more ways to customize your ride and handling.
