Trims and Pricing
The 2024 BMW X5 M is available in one trim level.
X5 M
Standard pricing for the X5 M starts at $123,295, including a $995 destination charge. The X5 M comes with all of the high-performance technology of BMW's other top models, such as an air suspension that the driver can calibrate, a limited-slip differential for sharper handling, staggered 21- and 22-inch front/rear wheels, seats with aggressive side support for keeping passengers in place in tight turns, and a sporty interior with materials and styling that's exclusive from the regular X5.
Of course, the X5 M does get to share in all of the luxury features enjoyed by the non-M model, such as advanced driver-assistance technology, automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a panoramic moonroof, a power hands-free liftgate, automatic parking assistance, heated front seats, multi-zone climate control, a heated leather steering wheel, a premium audio system, navigation, Wi-Fi, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
Engine and Performance
For 2024, BMW has improved the X5 M's twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine. A 48-volt mild-hybrid system has been added, allowing the X5 M to use less of its engine power to run the cabin electronics. This should save some gas, which is good news. Fuel economy estimates for the 2024 X5 M haven't been released yet from the EPA, but we expect they should be a tad better than last year's model.
The engine makes 617 horsepower, a 17-hp bump over the 2023 model. That jump in power is thanks to the fact that the Competition package now comes standard, bringing myriad performance enhancements. It still makes 553 pound-feet of torque. Behind the wheel, the power of the X5 M seems unfathomable. According to BMW, this 2.75-ton SUV can hustle from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds, but it feels even quicker than that. Linked to the V8 is BMW's eight-speed automatic transmission, which comes with paddle shifters and adjustable levels of sportiness. Naturally, all-wheel drive comes standard.
Fuel Economy
Interior
In the spacious cabin, BMW has gone all out with soft Merino leather, available in a handful of tasteful color schemes, and the deep seat bolsters and carbon fiber trim give the nod to the X5 M's performance potential. It's like you're driving in the SUV version of a top-end luxury sedan with the latest technology and high-quality materials all around you.
Some competitors might offer more rear legroom, but none can match the X5 M for cargo capacity. Folding down the back seat gives you 66 cubic feet of cargo space, so you can pack everything you need for your next adventure.
Let's talk about the comfort and technology features. Heated and cooled cup holders? Check. Quad-zone climate control? Check. The digital instrument cluster is customizable, and it automatically changes the data displayed based on which driving mode you're in.
Infotainment and Connectivity
For 2024, BMW swaps out last year's 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit for a much larger one. The larger, curved LED touch display has better resolution than the outgoing unit, plus it runs on the new Infotainment 8 software. BMW keeps the Gesture Control feature from last generation, allowing you to perform certain tasks with a simple hand motion and zero physical interaction with the infotainment system. Voice recognition has been around a long time in BMW products, but it's still convenient, and this version works well.
You also get several apps standard in the 2024 X5 M, such as navigation, What's App, Google Maps, Spotify, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and more.
Safety
The 2024 BMW X5 M has not been evaluated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
All X5 Ms come with forward-collision warning, pedestrian/cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Things like lane-keeping assist, front cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control are not included, but those can be had with the available Driving Assistance Professional package.

The Starting Market Average is a proprietary mathematical calculation based on actual recent transactions. It provides a statistically accurate understanding of what other buyers are paying for the least expensive configuration of this vehicle. Adjustments to the calculation beyond make, model, and trim are normalized based on detailed, anonymized transaction information. This accounts for the fact that most or all recently-sold vehicles included different option combinations. The data underlying the Starting Market Average calculation are filtered for extreme outliers and subjected to a weighted averaging process that considers factors such as the recency of transactions and the timing of data lags. In certain instances, the calculated result is adjusted to take account of abrupt changes in the market that may not yet be fully reflected by recent transaction prices. In all cases where the Starting Market Average is shown there is sufficient sample size and transaction detail to be statistically reliable.
