2019 Chevrolet Blazer Review

Overview
Capable family hauler; Engaging driving experience; V6 engine provides lots of power
Base four-cylinder lacks in power; Less available active driver safety tech than some
Looking for an SUV, that’s both stylish and functional? Thanks to its sleek exterior design, the Chevrolet Blazer makes an appealing visual statement. This five-passenger midsize SUV comes with a generous range of standard tech features and delivers good fuel economy.
What's New for 2019
Trims and Pricing
Shoppers purchasing a Chevy Blazer can choose from five main trim levels: L, 2.5L, 3.6L, RS and Premier.
The base Blazer L connects with the pavement via 18-inch wheels, and its xenon headlamps light the way after dark. Dual-zone automatic climate control keeps the temperature pleasant in the cabin, and keyless entry and push-button ignition are standard. This trim comes with a generous selection of tech features, including a Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth connectivity and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration. Pricing for this trim level starts at around $30,000.
With the Blazer’s 2.5L trim level, the list of features expands to include amenities like rear privacy glass, and pricing starts at around $33,500. Stepping up to the 3.6L trim level upgrades you from a four-cylinder engine to a more powerful V6, and pricing starts at around $34,500.
The Blazer’s top trim levels are relatively costly. The RS trim brings in amenities such as heated front seats, 20-inch wheels, black roof-mounted side rails, a hands-free tailgate and a heated steering wheel. This trim also includes driver-assist features such as rear cross-traffic alert and rear parking sensors. Pricing begins at around $42,000.
Choosing the Blazer’s range-topping Premier trim gets you amenities such as chrome-accented exterior door handles, silver roof-mounted side rails, a Bose eight-speaker stereo and ventilated front seats. Also, a blind-spot warning system is standard, for safer lane changes. The Blazer Premier starts at around $44,000.
The list of optional equipment includes features such as a wireless device charger, a rear-seat DVD entertainment system and a panoramic power sunroof. An optional Driver Assist II package brings in features such as adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation system, a lane-departure warning system and a surround-view camera. Keep in mind that many of the Blazer’s optional driver-assist features are standard equipment in rival models.
Engine and Performance
The Blazer’s L and 2.5L trims are motivated by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 193 horsepower and 188 pound-feet of torque. With the 3.6L, RS and Premier trims, a 3.6-liter V6 lives under the hood, and it provides 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque.
All models are governed by a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available for those who live in wet or snowy climates. The Chevy Blazer can tow up to 4,500 pounds.
Chevy’s Blazer gets strong fuel economy with its base 2.5-liter engine, and these models achieve mileage of 22/27 mpg city/highway. With the optional V6, mileage tops out at 20/26 mpg.
Interior
There’s seating for five passengers within the Blazer’s cabin, and with its bold design aesthetic, this crossover’s interior design matches the look of its exterior. Dramatic circular air vents sit at the base of a streamlined center console. The sculpted dash features sleek metallic accents.
Cloth upholstery is standard. Perforated leather upholstery in colors like black and tan is offered for those who want to upgrade the Blazer’s cabin.
When it comes to cargo capacity, the Blazer provides 30.5 cubic feet with its rear seats in place and 64.2 cubic feet with these seats folded. Other models in this segment provide a lot more room for your stuff. For example, the Hyundai Santa Fe offers 35.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind its second row and 71.3 cubic feet behind its first.
