2021 Chevrolet Corvette Review

Overview
Fast driving performance rivals much pricier cars; A sports car comfortable enough to drive daily; Pricing remains low, even for the top trim level
No available manual transmission; Lacks some common driver safety aids
The Chevrolet Corvette is one of the most famous cars ever made, and the eighth-generation model is the best yet. This high-performance sports car is available as a gorgeous coupe or convertible, with a V8 engine and rear-wheel-drive. Its mid-engine layout and motorsport technology give the Corvette incredible driving performance rivaling cars twice its price. Yet, it’s comfortable enough to drive daily, with a smooth ride and luxurious cabin.
What's New for 2021
Trims and Pricing
The Corvette starts around $60,000 and is offered in three trim levels: 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT. It comes as a coupe and convertible.
The 1LT has a double-wishbone suspension, a limited-slip differential, Brembo brakes, a backup camera, and rear parking sensors. Other features include LED headlights, 8-way leather seats, remote start, keyless access/ignition, dual-zone climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, and adaptive steering. Tech features include a 10-speaker Bose sound system, satellite radio, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, in-car WiFi, and an 8-inch touchscreen.
The roughly $68,000 2LT adds navigation, wireless smartphone charging, a 14-speaker Bose audio system, a heated steering wheel, a garage door opener, ventilated seats, driver’s seat memory, active seat bolsters, a Rear Camera Mirror, a Performance Data Recorder, memory power-folding mirrors, a head-up display, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
For around $72,000, the top-level 3LT comes with a leather-wrapped cabin, including Nappa leather seating surfaces, carbon fiber trim, suede accents, and leather door panels.
Chevrolet offers a few features for Corvette shoppers. The popular Z51 package costs $5,000 and adds several performance enhancements. These include a performance exhaust, a manually-adjustable suspension, an electronic limited-slip differential, a front splitter, larger brakes, performance tires, enhanced cooling, a rear spoiler, and more. Chevrolet says that this package allows the Corvette to accelerate to 60 mph in under three seconds.
Buyers can also add the performance exhaust as a standalone option. An adaptive suspension system called Magnetic Ride Control is also available, as is a front suspension lift system. Chevrolet also allows personalization of the interior color theme, seat belt color, and seat style.
Engine and Performance
Unlike previous generations, the current Corvette has its engine located in the middle of the chassis, similar to more expensive sports cars. This layout gives the Chevrolet better weight distribution and handling.
Chevrolet uses a 6.2-liter V8 engine with direct fuel injection and cylinder deactivation technology, producing 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. It is matched to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) and rear-wheel-drive. The driver can change gears manually if they desire using paddle shifters integrated behind the steering wheel. No manual transmission is available, but the DCT shifts gears rapidly, providing the Corvette with impressive acceleration.
The Corvette has a front and rear double-wishbone suspension. Buyers can equip Magnetic Ride Control, an adaptive damping system that improves suspension response. Chevrolet also includes Brembo front and rear brakes that provide excellent stopping power.
Interior
The interior strikes a balance between sportiness and comfort. Chevrolet includes many standard features and a cushioned ride to make the high-performance sports car practical enough for everyday driving. The driver and passenger bucket seats are trimmed in soft leather, with both featuring power adjustment. The driver can start the car without a key, and the vehicle can be started remotely, too. Chevrolet also includes dual-zone climate control, a Bose premium audio system, and an 8-inch touchscreen. All of the tech features are straightforward and easily understandable.
Though it looks small from the outside, the cabin is surprisingly roomy, even for tall passengers. There are 37.9 inches of headroom, a generous 42.8 inches of legroom, and plenty of lateral space to move around and remain comfortable. The Corvette includes 12.6 cubic feet of cargo capacity, which is better than many other small performance cars.
