2020 Chevrolet Express Cargo Van Review

Overview
Strong powertrains offer heavy-duty hauling; Vast and configurable cargo space; Available driver safety aids
Some rivals offer better fuel economy, handling; Lacking in infotainment options
The Chevrolet Express Cargo Van has been around since the 1990s and has cemented itself as one of the most durable commercial vans. Sitting on a heavy-duty truck platform, it has a large payload capacity to help businesses get where they need to go with everything they need. There are many options, which allow shoppers to customize their Express to their needs. Smaller rivals offer better fuel economy and a car-like ride but lack the muscle.
What's New for 2020
Trims and Pricing
Starting around $32,000, the Chevrolet Express Cargo has many available equipment packages and ladder racks. It has options for contractors, electricians, plumbers, and many others. There is even a Cargo Crew option, which allows you to carry up to five passengers in your Express.
The Express comes in two versions: 2500 and 3500. These are different in how much weight they can carry. The 2500 model has a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 8,600 pounds and a maximum payload capacity of 3,280 pounds. The 3500 model has a 9,900-pound GVWR and up to 4,250 pounds of payload capacity.
Both models come in either 135-inch or 155-inch wheelbases. Available safety technology includes forward collision warning, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear parking sensors.
A backup camera and tire pressure monitoring system both come standard. Other features include power door locks and windows, AM/FM stereo with two speakers, Wi-Fi access, vinyl bucket seats, air conditioning, a front console, rubberized vinyl floor covering, oil-life monitoring, a driver information center, 12-volt power outlets, a 120-volt household-style outlet, a theft-deterrent system, three cupholders, cloth headliner, four dome lights, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
Exterior details include a swing-out passenger-side door, 16-inch steel wheels, black bumpers, dual-halogen composite headlamps, black manual outside mirrors, light-tinted glass, and intermittent front wipers.
Engine and Performance
The Express Cargo comes standard with a 4.3-liter V6 engine. It produces 276 horsepower and 298 pound-feet of torque. It features direct injection, variable valve timing, and an aluminum block. It channels power through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
There are three available engines. Two of them are 6.0-liter V8 motors, one of which can operate on either gasoline or CNG/LPG. There is also a 2.8-liter Duramax turbo-diesel.
Rear-wheel-drive is standard, as is a 31-gallon fuel tank, heavy-duty components, and a 105-amp alternator.
Interior
The interior of the Express Cargo Van is spacious and versatile. Frills-free, it has an exposed frame cargo space with multiple tie-down points and plenty of options for customization. The front seating area is comfortable, though due to the van’s large size, some buttons are just out of reach. Vinyl seats come standard, and cloth is an option, as is a rear bench seat that expands total seating to five passengers.
The Express is something of a blank slate, ready to be filled with bulky cargo or configured for a wide range of jobs. Some options include a Hotel Shuttle package, a Paratransit package, trailering provisions, fixed glass windows in the side and rear doors, fixed doors in place of swing-out, and driver safety aids like forward collision warning.
