The Chevrolet Express Passenger is a full-size commercial van ready for the most demanding jobs, easily carrying up to 15 people. It's not the most refined or economical choice in its class, the interior is woefully outdated. But the heavy-duty truck frame undergirding the Express is second to none in toughness, and the Express offers a best-in-class towing capacity of 10,000 pounds. There is plenty of space inside for people and their stuff. The Express loses ground to more modern rivals, but it's a trusty option for shuttle companies and those needing the most interior space this side of a bus.

Trims and Pricing

Chevy offers the Express Passenger van in two heavy-duty platforms: 2500 or 3500. Seating for 12 passengers comes standard, with an extended-length body available for carrying 15. There are two trim levels: LS and LT.

LS

Pricing starts at $37,200 for the base LS trim, with 4-wheel disc brakes, steel wheels, a backup camera, air conditioning, curtain airbags in all four rows, vinyl upholstery, power windows, and Wi-Fi access.

Instead of the standard swing-out rear door, Chevy also offers a sliding door. Buyers can add a heavy-duty battery, a locking rear differential, side steps, satellite radio, power outside mirrors, Bluetooth (phone-only, no music), a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a USB port, rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and a CD player.

LT

Moving up to the LT ($39,300) adds lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, an alarm, cloth seats, floor mats, remote keyless entry, and cruise control.

Engine and Performance

Powering the 2022 Express Passenger van is a 4.3-liter V6 engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Chevy's trusted push-rod engine generates 276 horsepower and 298 pound-feet of torque. Customers can swap in a 181-hp turbo-diesel or a 401-hp gas V8 at extra cost.

Interior

The Chevrolet Express Passenger is a superb vehicle for carrying large groups. Its vast interior seats 12-15 people. The cabin is sparse, and there are few tech amenities. Rivals offer touchscreen infotainment systems with Apple CarPlay and navigation. Cargo space is an excellent 218.5 cubic feet or 255.5 cubes in the extended model.

The glovebox doesn’t close since I bought it. Doesn’t have the temperature feature. No CD player.

They have moved all the duct work and electrical stuff from the sides to overhead, and I don't like it. I causes me not to be able to load my dog crates the way I want.

I use this van to go to dog shows, so my needs are somewhat different than most people. I would have bought a cargo van if the air conditioning and heat had gone all the way to the back instead of a passenger van. The rails that hold the seating are a pain in my butt. I also wish that they had not moved all the electronics and duct work to the ceiling and left it in the side wall. I cannot stack my crates in this vehicle. I did not realize they had changed the head clearance, or I would have purchased the extended instead. Other than that I love my new Express.
