Trims and Pricing
Chevrolet makes the Impala in three different trim levels: LS, LT and LTZ. LS models' standard equipment includes keyless entry, automatic headlights, 18-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, cruise control, power adjustable driver's seat, power locks, power windows, trip computer, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, OnStar emergency telematics system, Bluetooth connectivity, and a sound system with six speakers, satellite radio, CD player, HD radio, auxiliary input, an iPod/USB interface and a 4.2-inch color display. An optional Convenience package adds foldable rear headrests, rear parking sensors and a cargo net for the trunk. LT models add to the standard features with 18-inch alloy wheels, dual zone automatic climate control, heated side mirrors, leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel, Bluetooth streaming audio, an 8-inch touchscreen display with MyLink infotainment system, and an SD card slot. 1LT models come with the four cylinder engine, while 2LT models come with the V6. Several packages are available as options on the LT. An upgraded version of the Convenience package comes with the same equipment as the LS package, plus a rearview camera, remote starter, and parking sensors. The Safety package adds lane departure warning, collision warning, blind spot monitoring, and a rear cross traffic alert system. A Premium Seating package comes with seat heaters and simulated suede upholstery. The Navigation package comes with a navigation system and keyless entry/ignition. A Wheel package adds 19-inch wheels. Buyers can add a sunroof, the only stand-alone option. LTZ models come with everything that is both standard and optional on the LT, save the navigation system which is an option. 1LZ models also come with the four cylinder engine, and can be had with a sunroof as optional equipment. 2LZ models have the V6 engine and the sunroof comes standard. All models also have leather upholstery. Optional equipment includes adaptive cruise control, 20-inch wheels and a Comfort & Convenience package that adds a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, auto-dimming mirrors, and driver memory settings. An Impala comes with a factory invoice of about $30,000 for an LS model and an MSRP of about $31,000. The LT trim level adds about $1,000 to the vehicle’s MSRP and the LTZ adds another $9,000. Of course as a member you can visit your Certified Dealer, confident you will always receive an upfront price that guarantees savings.
Engine and Performance
The standard engine on the Impala is a 2.5-liter four cylinder, which produces 195 horsepower and 187 pound-feet of torque. The optional engine for LT and LTZ models is a 3.6-liter V6, which puts out 305 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission are both standard with either engine. Fuel economy estimates from the EPA for models with the V6 engine are 18 mpg city, 28 mpg highway. With the 2.5-liter engine, those estimates jump to 21 mpg city, 31 mpg highway and 25 mpg combined.
Interior
With the new generation of the Impala, Chevrolet has turned over a completely new leaf that provides a downright luxurious interior. Everything from the gauge cluster to the center stack and center console looks modern and sophisticated, with a layout that is simple and makes finding controls a simple task. The MyLink system features a pretty intuitive interface that makes using it quite simple, especially if you are familiar with how some of the more popular modern smartphones operate. That being said, sometimes the system becomes bogged down, requiring some patience from drivers and front passengers. The display also shows images from the rearview camera, but the video quality is shockingly poor and grainy. The system allows the navigation to be programmed or a phone to be actively connected to the infotainment system while the car is in motion as long as the seat sensors pick up that someone in sitting in the front passenger seat, helping guard against driver distraction. Chevrolet also stretched out the car's wheelbase, providing plenty of legroom for tall adults to sit comfortably in either the front or rear seats. The seats are at least on the high end of average as far as support and comfort, and the rear seats have a 60/40 split that allows them to be folded down for access to the trunk. Speaking of the trunk, there is 18.8 cubic feet of cargo space, which is a lot for even a full-size sedan.
