2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTD Review

Overview
Sophisticated turbocharged engine. Extremely capable. Comfortable cabin.
Dated compared to key rivals. Bouncy ride. Interior feels basic.
The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTD is a perfect workhorse and weekend adventure truck for those on budget. We like it best when equipped with the big, powerful V8 engine option.
What's New for 2022
Trims and Pricing
The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTD is available in eight trim levels: WT, Custom, LT, Custom Trail Boss, RST, LTZ, LT Trail Boss, and High Country. The truck is available with rear-wheel or four-wheel drive. Buyers can also choose between three bed sizes, three cab styles, and five different engines. The RST is the most popular model, and we recommend it. We'll explain why.
WT
The base WT (Work Truck) starts at $32,095 (including a $1,695 destination fee). It's a regular cab with a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and 17-inch wheels. Inside is a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and vinyl seats.
Custom
The Custom ($39,295) adds 20-inch wheels, cloth seats, power windows, a second-row bench seat, and cruise control.
LT
The LT ($42,995) also rides on 17-inch wheels but adds luxuries like keyless ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, and heated front seats.
Custom Trail Boss
The Custom Trail Boss ($46,895) is geared toward off-pavement activities with the Z71 off-road package. It includes a 2-inch suspension lift, an automatic locking rear differential, 18-inch wheels, and hill-descent assist. A trailering package is also standard.
RST
The RST ($47,295) gets 18-inch wheels, fog lights, heated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, and a heated steering wheel. You get a lot for your money with the RST. It's still relatively affordable, and it's packed with power and features. For most buyers the RST is the best overall value in the Silverado 1500 LTD lineup.
LTZ
The LTZ ($51,895) gets a big rumbly 5.3-liter V8 engine, 20-inch wheels, and a power liftgate. Inside there's leather seats, a 10-way power-adjustable adjustable passenger seat and heated rear seats. Blind-spot monitoring is also standard.
LT Trail Boss
The LT Trail Boss ($54,195) adds a 2-inch suspension lift with the Z71 off-road package, 18-inch wheels, bed protection, and a seven-speaker Bose audio system. This is also the only model that gets a more sophisticated 10-speed automatic transmission.
High Country
The High Country ($56,395) features 20-inch wheels, fixed running boards, leather seating surfaces, heated and cooled front seats, wireless phone charging, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist.

Safety
The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTD has an overall rating of four out of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). When crash-tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) the big pickup earned a top rating of Good in all crash tests except for the small overlap front passenger test, which received only a Marginal rating. Both the 2022 Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 have a five-star NHTSA rating, and both are an IIHS Top Safety Pick.
The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTD offers numerous driver aids including automatic emergency braking, an auxiliary trailer camera, front and rear park assist, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-zone alert, and front pedestrian braking.
Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTD vs. the Competition
The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTD offers a good combination of comfort, capability, and price. It's a solid choice for full-size pickup truck buyers looking for style and substance, but who don't need the latest and greatest. They just want a proven truck at a great price. The Ford F-150 has more towing and hauling capability, and the more-expensive Ram 1500 offers superior ride quality and a more luxurious interior. Available in a wide range of bodystyles, trims, and configurations, there's a Silverado 1500 LTD to fit the wants, needs, and budget of just about every buyer.
