2023 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Review

Overview
Modern, rugged styling. Gargantuan towing strength. Massive frame with a huge interior. Easy-to-use trailering tech.
Cabin is a bit dated. Driver-assistance systems are pricy extras.
The standard bearer of super-big, super-strong trucks, the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD is capable of hauling colossal payloads and towing an eye-watering 36,000 pounds. Not just a brute, the Silverado 3500HD is clever, too, with trailering apps that walk owners through the entire process step-by-step. There are several earth-moving engines available, and the big Silverado's interior easily holds five adults and all their equipment.
What's New for 2023
Trims and Pricing
The Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD is available in a wide range of body sizes, and shoppers can select rear- or four-wheel drive as well as gas or diesel.
The base Work Truck trim ($41,700) comes with a V8 engine, disc brakes, steel wheels, air conditioning, a backup camera, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
The LT ($45,600) adds power windows and locks, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, cruise control, cloth seating, keyless entry, alloy wheels, and heated mirrors.
The LTZ ($57,000) comes with LED headlights, fog lamps, power-folding mirrors, remote engine start, heated seats and steering wheel, voice recognition, and dual-zone climate control.
The High Country ($69,400) comes loaded with a Bose premium audio system, built-in navigation, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a power tailgate, a wireless phone charger, 20-inch wheels, and advanced safety tech.
Shoppers have numerous options for the 3500HD, like dual rear wheels, skid plates, an off-road suspension, and surround-view monitoring.
Engine and Performance
The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD doesn't disappoint with its standard powertrain, a 6.6-liter gas V8 motor that's mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The powertrain produces a hearty 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque.
A 6.6-liter Duramax diesel engine is available that puts out 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque. That motor is paired with a 10-speed automatic.
Dual rear wheels are available for extra hauling capabilities and a more rugged style. The Silverado 3500HD has a maximum payload capacity of 7,442 pounds, and a towing limit of 36,000 pounds with an optional gooseneck or fifth-wheel setup.
Interior
The Silverado 3500HD shares its interior design with other trucks in Chevy's lineup, and that's a good thing. The cabin is roomy and straightforward, with large, rugged controls that are easy to operate. Outward visibility is great. Dual glove boxes provide extra space for holding tools, snacks, and other small items.
The infotainment system is the easiest to use in its class. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are just a touch of the button away, and the available towing apps show you step-by-step how to connect a trailer, stay safe and stable on the road, and more.
The cabin is unmatched for sheer square footage, but some rivals offer more luxurious accommodations. Still, the 3500HD has excellent isolation from the road, and the cabin remains quiet at highway speeds.
