2020 Chevrolet Spark Review

Overview
City-friendly size; Economical; Low starting price
Limited cargo space; Rivals offer more features
The Chevrolet Spark is a practical choice for those in need of a small, affordable, and fuel-efficient car. Its subcompact size helps it get around in the city and conquer tight parking spots. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, and a manual transmission is available. It’s not flashy or fast, but the Spark excels as no-frills, value-driven transportation.
What's New for 2020
Trims and Pricing
The 2020 Spark comes in four trims: LS, 1LT, ACTIV, and 2LT.
The LS starts at around $13,500. Key exterior features include 15-inch steel wheels, a compact spare, and front/rear intermittent wipers. Inside, the LS comes equipped with cloth seating for four, an infotainment system, a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, four speakers, two USB ports, 60/40 split-folding rear bench, air conditioning, and an outside temperature display.
The 1LT trim comes in at about $15,500 and has alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, power windows, satellite radio, cruise control, a theft-deterrent system, heated side mirrors, and a 6-speaker sound system.
For about $17,500, the ACTIV gets a sporty exterior, with black rocker moldings, black bumpers, and fog lamps. Interior features include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a luggage rack, leatherette upholstery, and heated front seats.
The top-tier 2LT comes loaded with features, all for about $18,000. It comes with chrome exterior trim accents, an Enhanced Driver Information Center, proximity keyless entry, and rear park assist.
Engine and Performance
The Chevrolet Spark gets its power from a 1.4-liter inline 4-cylinder engine. The little powerplant generates 98 horsepower and 94 lb-ft of torque. It uses regular unleaded fuel and features front-wheel drive. Buyers can choose between a 5-speed manual transmission and a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The EPA estimates the Spark should return fuel economy of 38 mpg combined. With its flared fenders and raised suspension, the outdoorsy ACTIV model gets about 37 mpg combined.
Interior
Keeping with its commuter car intentions, the Spark has a user-friendly and straightforward interior. Dark colors and hard plastics abound. The 2LT trim adds leatherette seats, giving it an upmarket touch.
The center stack is pretty sparse, with the infotainment system, large HVAC dials, and little else. The standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are great features at this price point.
