2025 Chevrolet Trailblazer Review

Overview
Subcompact SUVs are all about distilling the best parts of larger counterparts into a tidy, to-go package. The 2025 Chevrolet Trailblazer blends cues from Chevy's larger Blazer and Traverse SUVs into a chiseled, eye-catching profile with a little Camaro muscle-car flourish in its rear fender flares.
Substance backs the style, with class-leading rear-seat legroom and more cargo space than competitors such as the Hyundai Kona and Mazda CX-30. The Trailblazer's elevated view from the front seats also makes this micro-utility feel a little more macro, and the fold-flat front passenger seat is a handy feature when transporting long objects. There's even a bit of off-road readiness with the Activ trim.
But skip ahead if it's speed and power you crave. Neither of the small turbo engines gives the Trailblazer much pop, not compared to the CX-30 or Toyota Corolla Cross, or a hatchback such as the Subaru Crosstrek. They deliver more power for everyday passing and acceleration on the freeway. The Trailblazer also could benefit from better suspension settings (the smoother Volkswagen Taos has the advantage, nor is its interior quite as snazzy as the Mazda's.
But space and utility have their place, and top safety scores also boost the Trailblazer's appeal. It's not a standout, but it delivers impressive value.
Good sightlines and visibility. Roomy second row. The Activ trim offers a modest measure of trail ability.
Slow. Stiff ride. Bland interior design.
The 2025 Chevrolet Trailblazer's roomy backseat and generous cargo space make it a good choice for buyers who favor utility over performance. Muscular design sweetens the deal, but most competitors are quicker and more polished.
What's New for 2025
Trims and Pricing
The 2025 Chevrolet Trailblazer is available in four trim levels: LS, LT, Activ, and RS. We'll explain below why we think the LT is the best pick for most buyers.
LS
Starting at $24,395 (including a $1,295 destination fee), the LS comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, a chrome grille bar, LED headlights, push-button start, and a flat-folding front passenger seat to accommodate objects up to 8.5 feet long. Standard in-car tech includes an 11-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite radio, two USB ports, a four-speaker stereo system, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
All Trailblazers feature forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams, while blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors are optional. Other LS options include remote start and tinted rear windows.
LT
The LT ($25,595) builds on the LS with 17-inch wheels in black finish, roof rails, heated side mirrors, keyless entry, and remote start. The LT's options list expands to include a panoramic sunroof, heated seats, heated steering wheel, automatic climate control, wireless device charging, two additional USB charging ports, and adaptive cruise control. We think the LT is the best bargain for most buyers, not only for the nice extras, but also for the choice to add more useful options, especially for drivers in cold climates.
Activ
If you like venturing off-road, consider the Activ trim ($28,995). It comes with an upgraded engine, off-road suspension tuning, and an under-body skid plate for protection against trail hazards. A black mesh grille, black roof rails, and dual-outlet exhaust with polished trapezoidal tips add some flash, while the cabin is upgraded with synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat.
Most of the LS and LT options are also available for the Activ trim, but the Activ also offers a seven-speaker Bose audio system in a bundle with adaptive cruise control. It's also available with a two-tone roof and a hands-free power liftgate.
RS
The RS ($28,995) is the sporty side of the Trailblazer's personality. It comes with the same upgraded engine and adds 19-inch wheels and a dual-outlet exhaust with round polished tips. Cabin highlights include red interior accents and a flat-bottom steering wheel, while options are largely the same as the Activ, with the exception of an exclusive black-painted roof.
Engine and Performance
The 2025 Chevrolet Trailblazer offers two turbocharged three-cylinder engines. The 1.2-liter base engine (137 horsepower, 162 pound-feet of torque) comes standard on front-wheel-drive models and pairs with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The 1.3-liter (155 hp, 174 lb-ft of torque) upgrade is also paired with a CVT in front-wheel-drive models, or with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. All Trailblazers are available in front- or all-wheel-drive configuration.
With its small engines and modest horsepower, the Trailblazer takes time to gather speed. And while there's adequate horsepower for cruising around town, some rivals have more muscle and nimbler handling. For example, the Mazda CX-30 has crisper steering and a choice of 191-hp or 227-hp engines. And while the Trailblazer's suspension is tuned for a firm ride and feels a little stiff on the road, the ride isn't jarring or uncomfortable. But if you're looking for a subcompact SUV with a more forgiving ride, the Volkswagen Taos is a cushier, compelling option.
Fuel Economy
The 2025 Chevrolet Trailblazer with the base 1.2-liter engine is rated by the Environmental Protection Agency to deliver 29 mpg during city driving and 31 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive. The larger 1.3-liter does better at 29/33 mpg city/highway, while adding all-wheel drive lowers efficiency to 26/30 mpg.
These numbers are typical for much of the subcompact SUV class, although a rival like the Mazda CX-30, which comes standard with all-wheel drive, matches the city driving estimate and gets 33 mpg on the highway. The all-wheel-drive Subaru Crosstrek with its base engine earns 27/34 mpg.
Interior
The Chevrolet Trailblazer isn't quite as impressive inside. An 8-inch digital instrument display gives a modern look, but the design and materials are a bit lackluster compared to the Mazda CX-30's more stylish, upscale cabin. But the Trailblazer's ergonomics are good, with comfortably elevated seat placement and a class-leading 39.4 inches of rear legroom. That's about 3 inches more than the Subaru Crosstrek or Mazda CX-30.
The Chevy Trailblazer is also a top pick for cargo capacity, with 25.3 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 54.4 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. The Crosstrek has 19.9 cubic feet behind the rear seats and the CX-30 has 20.2 cubic feet.
Infotainment and Connectivity
An 11-inch touchscreen anchors the 2025 Chevy Trailblazer's infotainment system, which includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite radio, two USB ports, a four-speaker stereo system, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Two extra USB ports, wireless device charging, and a premium Bose audio system are optional.
The rival Mazda CX-30 comes with an 8.8-inch display on lower trim levels and a 10.25-inch infotainment display with some touchscreen functionality on the top trim. The base infotainment system in the Subaru Crosstrek features dual 7-inch touchscreens and an 11.6-inch vertical touchscreen in the rest of the lineup.
Safety
The 2025 Chevrolet Trailblazer hasn't yet been tested, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the identical 2024 Trailblazer a perfect five stars for overall crash protection. Similarly, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) hasn't yet evaluated the 2025 model, but gave the 2024 Trailblazer its top score of Good in all crashworthiness tests.
All 2025 Trailblazers come with forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. GM's Teen Driver feature is also included, which lets owners regulate and monitor their teen's driving. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors are optional.
Chevrolet Trailblazer vs. the Competition
The 2025 Chevrolet Trailblazer is stylish and practical, with bold design and more cargo space than the Mazda CX-30, one of its main competitors. The Trailblazer also offers more room in its second row than the Subaru Crosstrek. But if you want athleticism, the Mazda CX-30 is quicker and more responsive than the Chevy. And if you want a smoother, more polished ride, the Volkswagen Taos is softer and more forgiving. But for buyers who don't mind sacrificing a bit of speed and polish for more utility and style, the Trailblazer is a good pick.

The Starting Market Average is a proprietary mathematical calculation based on actual recent transactions. It provides a statistically accurate understanding of what other buyers are paying for the least expensive configuration of this vehicle. Adjustments to the calculation beyond make, model, and trim are normalized based on detailed, anonymized transaction information. This accounts for the fact that most or all recently-sold vehicles included different option combinations. The data underlying the Starting Market Average calculation are filtered for extreme outliers and subjected to a weighted averaging process that considers factors such as the recency of transactions and the timing of data lags. In certain instances, the calculated result is adjusted to take account of abrupt changes in the market that may not yet be fully reflected by recent transaction prices. In all cases where the Starting Market Average is shown there is sufficient sample size and transaction detail to be statistically reliable.
