Trims and Pricing
Ford offers the Edge in SE, SEL, Titanium, and Sport trim levels. SE models feature 17-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, cloth upholstery, 60/40 split folding and reclining rear seats, cruise control, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, digital gauge cluster, 6-inch infotainment screen, and a sound system with six speakers, CD player, and an auxiliary input jack. The SEL trim adds rear parking sensors, keypad entry, automatic headlights, automatic dimming rearview mirror, satellite radio, voice commands, Bluetooth connectivity, 18-inch alloy wheels, heated side mirrors, dual zone automatic climate control, power adjustable driver's seat, and a leather wrapped steering wheel. The Titanium trim adds a hands-free power liftgate, an upgraded Sony sound system, HD radio, and the Sync system with MyFord Touch. With the Sport trim, adaptive steering is a standard feature, as is an 8-inch infotainment screen, 20-inch wheels, leather upholstery, sport-tuned suspension, piano black grille, heated front seats, and an upgraded sound system. An Edge comes with a factory invoice of about $28,000 for an SE model and an MSRP of about $30,000. The SEL trim level adds about $2,200 to the vehicle’s MSRP, while the Titanium increases it about another $1,500. The Sport trim level inflates the MSRP by about another $3,000. When you go to a Certified Dealer and can show you're a member, you enjoy a clear price offer that builds in savings, all as part of your hassle-free shopping experience.
Engine and Performance
The base engine for the Edge is a 3.5-liter V-6 that puts out 285 horsepower and 253 lb.-ft. of torque. Buyers can add to all but the Sport Trim level a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, which puts out 240 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque. Sport models are powered by a 2.7-liter V-6 EcoBoost engine that makes at least 300 horsepower. All of the engines come with a six-speed automatic transmission that can be shifted manually using paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available.
Interior
The interior of the Edge has a clean, two tone look that is altered by the seat color buyers choose. The infotainment screen and digital gauge cluster are easy to reference while driving, but there are still a number of small physical controls on the center stack that can be difficult to use while driving. Most materials have a high-quality feel, with either good texture or a softness to them, and overall craftsmanship is good. The front seats have excellent padding and yet are still supportive enough. As for space, the new Edge has it in spades. While the previous generation wasn't exactly a slouch in that area, Ford has expanded the vehicle's size and added two inches of legroom in the front and another inch for the rear seats. Headroom was also bumped up by an inch. The result is an even more livable vehicle, especially when it comes to long road trips. The cargo area also increased in size, coming in at 39.2 cubic feet with the rear seats up, which is pretty impressive and more than enough to cart along five suitcases. Folding the rear seats down expands the cargo area to 73.4 cubic feet.
