2022 Ford Edge Review

Overview
Comfortable, quiet ride. Large cargo area. Standard all-wheel drive.
No hybrid option. Some competitors offer more upscale interiors.
The five-passenger Ford Edge midsize SUV emphasizes style and convenience. The cabin offers ample room for passengers and cargo, and its infotainment system includes an impressive 12-inch touchscreen.
What's New for 2022
Trims and Pricing
The 2022 Ford Edge is available in five trim levels: SE, SEL, ST-Line, Titanium, and ST. While the crossover offers a pair of engine choices, every Edge features all-wheel drive. The SEL is the most popular model and our pick for best value. We'll explain why.
SE
The SE is the most basic Edge, but it still offers a long list of standard features. Starting at $37,440 (including a $1,245 destination fee), it includes a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, and keyless ignition. Another plus is Ford Co-Pilot360, a suite of driver-assist aids that includes automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot warning, a rearview camera, lane-keeping assist, and a pre-collision system with automatic emergency braking.
SEL
With a base price of $39,740, the SEL adds LED fog lights, heated side mirrors, a keyless entry keypad, heated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The SEL is our choice as the best value among the Edge trims because of its array of luxury and convenience features under $40K.
ST-Line
The ST-Line ($43,540) adds sporty-looking features. It includes a distinctive ST-style grille, body-colored bumpers, black ST beltline molding, gloss-black body fascias, a power-operated liftgate, and 20-inch gloss-black aluminum wheels. Inside, the ST-Line features synthetic suede seats, red accent stitching, and a metallic foot pedal.
Titanium
The Titanium ($43,540) is the luxury version of the Edge. It has leather seats, a heated steering wheel, hands-free foot-activated power liftgate, and a 12-speaker B&O premium sound system. Also included are 19-inch aluminum wheels, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and memory side mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators.
ST
The ST ($46,240) is the performance-oriented Edge. It features a 335 horsepower 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 engine, seven-speed automatic transmission, and performance-themed trim. The Edge ST drives differently from the other Edge models with 20-inch alloy wheels, P245/50R20 all-season tires, and sport-tuned suspension.
Engine and Performance
The Ford Edge offers two engine choices, but the majority of the trims are fitted with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. The EcoBoost engine delivers 250 horsepower and is mated to an efficient eight-speed automatic transmission. The performance-oriented ST has a 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 that drives all four wheels via a seven-speed automatic. It delivers 335 hp and 380 pound-feet of torque, although its peak power requires premium fuel. All-wheel drive is standard across the lineup, but the Edge is not intended for anything more than light off-roading. Instead, it has a very pleasant on-road personality — quiet, comfortable, and easy to handle. The Edge ST is more engaging with its higher horsepower, faster-responding seven-speed automatic, and specially tuned suspension.
In comparison, the Nissan Murano has a 260-hp V6. The Chevrolet Blazer features a 227-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a 308-hp 3.6-liter V6. The Toyota Venza has a hybrid powertrain that combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with three electric motors producing a combined 219 hp.

Safety
The 2022 Ford Edge earned a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the highest possible. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) chose the Edge as a Top Safety Pick.
The Ford Edge provides standard Ford Co-Pilot360 safety and driver-assist technology. It includes automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot warning with cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, pre-collision automatic braking with pedestrian detection, and a rearview camera system. An optional package adds adaptive cruise control, evasive steering assist, and built-in navigation with live traffic information and predictive destinations.
Ford Edge vs. the Competition
The Ford Edge scores high with its attractive styling, multiple trim offerings, and leading-edge technology interface. Drivers will benefit from its standard all-wheel drive and comfortable, quiet ride. Its interior is the roomiest in the segment, and the SUV gets very good marks for safety. For serious off-roading in a five-passenger SUV, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is a more capable option. For fuel economy, the hybrid-equipped Toyota Venza is the pick. But the Edge has earned its popularity with its numerous positive features. Other alternatives include the Chevrolet Blazer and Nissan Murano.
