2023 Ford Edge Review

Overview
While some other midsize SUVs emphasize their off-road abilities, the 2023 Ford Edge celebrates its on-pavement prowess. It provides a quiet, carlike ride, predictable handling, and excellent interior space. And it hangs its hat on exterior style that still looks good, despite the model's advancing age. For those seeking more performance and driving fun, there's the Edge ST. And for those who like the ST's looks but don't need the performance, the ST-Line trim borrows many of the ST's styling features.
Other five-passenger midsize crossovers, such as the Toyota Venza, Nissan Murano, and Chevrolet Blazer, have much in common with the Ford Edge in construction, demeanor, and interior room. The Edge differentiates itself with good looks, turbocharged powertrains, and an exceptional infotainment system.
Standard all-wheel drive. Good handling with a comfortable ride. Plenty of cargo space.
No hybrid model. Cabin is more functional than stylish.
The five-passenger Ford Edge midsize SUV offers ample room for both passengers and cargo. It's a solid pick in a crowded class of popular options.
What's New for 2023
Trims and Pricing
The 2023 Ford Edge is available in five trim levels: SE, SEL, ST-Line, Titanium, and ST. It offers a choice of two powertrains, and every Edge has all-wheel drive. The SEL is the most popular model and our pick for best value. We'll explain why.
SE
The SE is the base model, but it still offers a long list of worthwhile standard features. Starting at $39,440 (including a $1,495 destination fee), it includes a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, and keyless ignition. Another plus is Ford Co-Pilot360, a suite of driver-assist aids that includes automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot warning, a rearview camera, lane-keeping assist, and a pre-collision system with automatic emergency braking.
SEL
With a base price of $40,840, the SEL adds LED fog lights, heated side mirrors, a keyless entry keypad, heated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The SEL is our choice as the best value among the Edge trims because of its additional comfort and convenience features.
ST-Line
The ST-Line ($44,595) adds sporty appearance items while retaining the base-level powertrain. It includes a distinctive ST-style grille, body-colored bumpers, black ST beltline molding, gloss-black body fascias, a power-operated liftgate, and 20-inch gloss-black aluminum wheels. Inside, the ST-Line features synthetic suede seats, red accent stitching, and a metallic foot pedal.
Titanium
The Titanium ($44,595) is the luxury version. It has leather seats, a heated steering wheel, hands-free foot-activated power liftgate, and a premium 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. Also included are 19-inch aluminum wheels, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and side mirrors with memory settings and integrated turn signal indicators.
ST
The ST ($47,980) is the performance-oriented version of the Edge. It features a 335 horsepower 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 engine, seven-speed automatic transmission, and special trim. The ST offers sharper, more precise handling than the lower trims, with 20-inch alloy wheels, P245/50R20 all-season tires, and a sport-tuned suspension.
Engine and Performance
Most 2023 Ford Edge models are powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It delivers 250 horsepower and is mated to an efficient eight-speed automatic transmission. The performance-oriented ST has a 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 that drives all four wheels via a seven-speed automatic. It delivers 335 hp and 380 pound-feet of torque, although its peak power requires premium fuel. All-wheel drive is standard across the lineup, but the Edge is not suitable for anything more than light off-roading. On the other hand, it has a very pleasant on-road personality — quiet, comfortable, and easy to handle. And AWD gives it extra capabilities in snow and ice. The Edge ST is more engaging with its higher horsepower EcoBoost engine, faster responding seven-speed automatic, and specially tuned suspension.
In comparison, the Nissan Murano has a 260-hp V6. The Chevrolet Blazer features a 228-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a 308-hp 3.6-liter V6. The Toyota Venza has a hybrid powertrain that combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with three electric motors producing a combined 219 hp.

Safety
The 2023 Ford Edge earned a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the highest possible. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) hasn't rated the 2023 Edge, but it named the nearly identical 2022 Edge a Top Safety Pick.
The Ford Edge provides standard Ford Co-Pilot360 safety and driver-assist technology. It includes automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot warning with cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, pre-collision automatic braking with pedestrian detection, and a rearview camera system. An optional package adds adaptive cruise control, evasive steering assist, and built-in navigation with live traffic information and predictive destinations.
Ford Edge vs. the Competition
The 2023 Ford Edge continues to deliver attractive exterior styling, multiple trim offerings, and leading-edge infotainment. Drivers facing bad weather will benefit from its standard all-wheel drive and composed handling. Its interior is the roomiest in the segment, and the SUV gets very good marks for safety. Those who plan off-road adventures in a five-passenger SUV will find the Jeep Grand Cherokee is a more capable option. For top-ranking fuel economy, the Toyota Venza hybrid is more fuel efficient. But the Edge has earned its popularity with its numerous positives. Other stylish alternatives include the Chevrolet Blazer and Nissan Murano.

The Starting Market Average is a proprietary mathematical calculation based on actual recent transactions. It provides a statistically accurate understanding of what other buyers are paying for the least expensive configuration of this vehicle. Adjustments to the calculation beyond make, model, and trim are normalized based on detailed, anonymized transaction information. This accounts for the fact that most or all recently-sold vehicles included different option combinations. The data underlying the Starting Market Average calculation are filtered for extreme outliers and subjected to a weighted averaging process that considers factors such as the recency of transactions and the timing of data lags. In certain instances, the calculated result is adjusted to take account of abrupt changes in the market that may not yet be fully reflected by recent transaction prices. In all cases where the Starting Market Average is shown there is sufficient sample size and transaction detail to be statistically reliable.
