2022 Ford Super Duty F-350 Review

Overview
Potent and refined gas engines; Jaw-dropping diesel power; Top-notch towing strength; Desirable tech amenities available
Base trim lacks some common tech features; Limited's MSRP rivals luxury brands; Towing software isn't as clever as some
The Ford F-350 sits in the middle of the American brand's Super Duty lineup, offering additional size and strength over the venerable F-150. The stats are impressive: a maximum gooseneck towing capacity of 35,750, up to 1,050 lb-ft of torque, and a payload limit of 7,850 lbs. The F-350 pays just as much attention to interior space and comfort, giving passengers a luxurious and tech-forward cabin on upper trim levels.
What's New for 2022
Trims and Pricing
Customers can configure their truck in a range of trim levels and body sizes. Ford makes the F-350 in six trims: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.
A two-door Regular Cab provides seating for three people, while the four-door SuperCab and even larger Crew Cab seat six. The Regular Cab features an 8.0-foot bed with a max payload of 7,850 lbs. The other cabs include a 6.75-foot bed.
The XL ($36,465) has a backup camera, auto on/off halogen headlamps, remote engine start, air conditioning, Bluetooth, and a WiFi hotspot.
The XLT ($41,200) adds a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, cruise control, power windows, power side mirrors, and a suite of driver safety tech like auto emergency braking and rear cross-traffic alert.
Stepping up to the sporty Lariat ($49,585) adds parking sensors, fog lamps, power-folding mirrors, power leather seats, dual-zone climate control, a 12-inch touchscreen with navigation and a Bang & Olufsen premium sound system.
The King Ranch ($64,570) adds standard four-wheel drive, a western motif, running boards, and all-terrain tires, plus tech like lane-keep assist, a surround-view camera, rain-sensing wipers, ventilated front seats, a memory driver's seat, keyless ignition, wireless device charging, and a heated steering wheel.
The Platinum ($67,885) adds a more elegant chrome trim, adaptive cruise control, LED headlamps, and heated rear seats.
At the top of the lineup, the Limited ($86,260) comes with a panoramic sunroof, an adaptive steering system, and Ford's top-of-the-line turbodiesel engine.
Ford offers several options, like a snowplow package, an FX4 off-road package, bed illumination, and cargo loading ramps.
Engine and Performance
Sitting atop a high-strength frame made from steel, the F-350's body panels and bed are crafted from lightweight aluminum. Like the rest of the Super Duty series, it is assembled in Kentucky and Ohio. A dual-rear-wheel (DRW) rear axle is available.
All F-350s employ a heavy-duty 10-speed automatic transmission.
The base motor is a 6.2-liter V8 running on regular unleaded gas. It produces 385 hp and 430 lb.-ft. of torque, with a max tow rating of 16,700 lbs.
A 7.3-liter V8 is available. It produces 430 hp and 475 lb.-ft. of torque. The maximum conventional tow rating is 20,700 lbs; fifth-wheel/gooseneck is rated at a maximum of 21,200 lbs.
The top-spec Limited model includes the mighty 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V8, which runs on ultra-low sulfur diesel/B20. It produces 475 hp and 1,050 lb.-ft. of torque. The maximum tow rating is 21,200 lbs, with a max fifth-wheel/gooseneck tow rating of 35,750 lbs.
Ford includes a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty on gas models and a 5-year/100,000-mile warranty on the Power Stroke. Ford also includes 3 years/36,000 miles bumper-to-bumper, a 5-year/unlimited corrosion (perforation only) warranty, and roadside assistance for 5 years/60,000 miles.
Interior
Headroom inside the F-350 is great, as is front legroom in each of the three cab types. Rear headroom is virtually the same in the SuperCab and Crew Cab, while rear legroom in the SuperCab is a tight 33.5 inches. The Crew Cab's rear legroom is a vast 43.6 inches.
Lower trims have a simple but well-designed cabin, but small-item storage is good. A table folds down with the front-center seat, providing a level work area along with extra cupholders. The Lariat trim and above add a wealth of tech amenities that make the F-350 feel like one of the most luxurious trucks on the market. Ford's leather is soft and nicely stitched; top models have heated and cooled seats.
