What's New for 2023
Trims and Pricing
Ford builds the Transit in T-150, T-250, and T-350 weight classes. Prices start at $41,955 before tax and options. Upgrades include an extended wheelbase, a taller roof, and all-wheel drive.
The Transit's halogen headlights feature automatic high beams while the windshield wipers can sense rain. Standard driver-assistance aids include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control.
Other features include vinyl upholstery, bucket seats, sun visors, remote keyless entry, air conditioning, power windows, a 4-speaker AM/FM stereo system, Bluetooth hands-free calling, dual 12-volt outlets, a USB input, and a 4.0-inch color display. The cargo area features a flat loading floor, a 50/50 hinged rear door, fabric carpeting, overhead lighting, and side steps.
Drivers needing more muscle can opt for a 3.5-liter EcoBoost turbocharged V6. Another option is body-color bumpers replacing the standard unpainted bumpers for a more upscale appeal. The 50/50 hinged rear door opening angle can be expanded from 180 degrees to 253 degrees, allowing them to be placed against the vehicle's sheet metal. A power-sliding side door is available, as are wiper-activated headlamps that add a bit of convenience in lousy weather. An extended-range gas tank, running boards, long-arm side mirrors, and heavy-duty trailer towing are also available. Shoppers can add windows to the rear and side of the vehicle.
Inside, you can add cloth upholstery, metal tie-down hooks, rear air conditioning, a Sync 3 infotainment system, six audio speakers, a vehicle maintenance monitor, a 110-volt power outlet, blind-spot monitoring, a front-view camera, and parking sensors. Ford also makes a few Prep packages as a foundation for different jobs and activities. There are packages for transforming the Transit Cargo into an ambulance, RV, parcel delivery van, or overland adventure vehicle.
Engine and Performance
The Transit has a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive setup. Buyers can add all-wheel drive for extra traction in bad weather. A 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 275 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque provides adequate power for moving cargo around town. It takes regular unleaded or E85 fuel. It is matched to a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission.
The Transit offers up to 4,550 lbs of payload capacity. The T-350 weight class is also available with dual rear wheels and an extended-length body for even more cargo space.
The maximum towing capacity is 6,800 lbs.
Interior
Step into the Transit's driver seat, and you'll find a large steering wheel, good outward visibility, and straightforward controls. The interior feels modern for a commercial van; the buttons and dials are more premium than some rivals. The seats aren't deeply padded, but they are comfortable enough for trips around town. The base vinyl upholstery is attractive, and Ford also sells dark gray cloth that improves comfort. Headroom and legroom are excellent.
Ford's standard infotainment features are somewhat underwhelming. The tiny display isn't a touchscreen, and features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are absent. Fleet models get Ford Telematics and a WiFi hotspot.
The Transit's cabin remains quiet at speed, with a smooth ride that does an excellent job absorbing road imperfections. Agile handling helps get through traffic and into parking spots.
Moving from the front-row cabin to the rest of the interior, the Transit has one of the largest cargo capacities of any vehicle on the market. The standard low-roof model features 224.5 cubic feet of space. Going up to the medium roof increases that number to 292.7 cubes. The longer-length model provides 382.6 cubic feet with a high roof. At the top end, the extra-long model offers an astounding 461.9 cubic feet.
Cargo tie-downs are available, as are upfit prep kits. The cargo area is fantastic for securely transporting large bulky items.

The Starting Market Average is a proprietary mathematical calculation based on actual recent transactions. It provides a statistically accurate understanding of what other buyers are paying for the least expensive configuration of this vehicle. Adjustments to the calculation beyond make, model, and trim are normalized based on detailed, anonymized transaction information. This accounts for the fact that most or all recently-sold vehicles included different option combinations. The data underlying the Starting Market Average calculation are filtered for extreme outliers and subjected to a weighted averaging process that considers factors such as the recency of transactions and the timing of data lags. In certain instances, the calculated result is adjusted to take account of abrupt changes in the market that may not yet be fully reflected by recent transaction prices. In all cases where the Starting Market Average is shown there is sufficient sample size and transaction detail to be statistically reliable.
