2024 Ford Transit Cargo Van Review

Overview
Full-size vans offer unrivaled covered cargo-carrying abilities, making them ideal for a wide range of business applications, and the 2024 Ford Transit Cargo Van is a top pick. It stands out from rivals with a car-like ride, well-equipped cabin, and excellent standard safety features. Ford offers several body sizes, with plumbing, HVAC, delivery services, catering, and general contracting configurations. The interior can even be set up as a mobile office. All-wheel drive is available, making the Transit a popular option for camping. Ford's two available engines are based on its 3.5-liter V6, offering class-leading power and refinement.
There are some areas where the Transit lags the segment. Ford doesn't offer a diesel like some rivals. Towing and payload are also lower than other models. Still, the Transit should provide more than enough strength for most applications.
There is a handful of vans to choose from in the full-size category, and while the Ford Transit is one of the best, its rivals have their strengths. The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Cargo Van lives up to its name with prestige, luxury, and refinement. The Chevrolet Express Cargo Van and its mechanical twin, the GMC Savana Cargo Van, offer truck-like towing capacities. The Ram ProMaster Cargo Van dishes out vast cargo space, a super-tall roof, and a hefty payload rating.
Ready to take on jobs of all sizes. Torquey available turbocharged engine. Spacious and well-equipped interior. Ford's driver-assistance tech leads the segment.
Subpar towing capacity. Upper trim levels can get expensive.
The Ford Transit Cargo Van provides a heavy-duty platform with several body lengths and roof heights to help businesses find the right vehicle for any job. The Transit shines on the open road with a smooth ride, comfortable cabin, and excellent driver-assistance technology, though some rivals offer more off-road capability and luxury features.
What's New for 2024
Trims and Pricing
The 2024 Ford Transit Cargo Van is available in four platform strengths: T-150, T-250, T-350, and T-350 HD. Each comes equipped with a similar feature set. Customers can select from 130-inch and 148-inch wheelbases and three roof heights. An extended-length body and 'dually' dual rear wheels are also available.
Transit
Pricing for the 2024 Transit Cargo Van starts at $48,885, including a destination fee of $2,095. That price includes dual bucket seats with vinyl upholstery, sun visors, air conditioning, remote keyless entry, power windows, a four-speaker audio system, two 12V power outlets, a 4.0-inch infotainment screen with Bluetooth, and dual USB ports. The Transit's cargo bay features a flat floor, 50/50 hinged rear doors, fabric carpeting, overhead lighting, and side steps.
Options include a more powerful engine, a power-sliding side door, a larger gas tank, additional windows, cloth seats, a 12.0-inch touchscreen with navigation, metal tie-down hooks, cargo bay air conditioning, a front-view camera, a household-style 110V power outlet, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and traffic sign recognition.

Interior
The interior of the Ford Transit Cargo Van is one of the most pleasant and refined in its category, with excellent legroom and comfortable seats, high-grade materials, and user-friendly controls. A high seating position and tall windows give the Transit excellent outward visibility. The interior remains very quiet at speed.
As its name suggests, the Transit specializes in cargo, and even the base low-roof, short-wheelbase Transit provides 224.5 cubic feet of cargo capacity. Other models offer more space, with the range-topping Transit with a tall roof and extended body delivering 461.9 cu ft.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Like other cargo vans, Ford's base infotainment system is small and not very modern. The 4.0-inch screen is hard to read but has a radio, Bluetooth, four speakers, and dual USB ports. A six-speaker audio system is available.
Ford also offers a Sync 4 infotainment system with a 12.0-inch touchscreen, which is a massive upgrade in usability and features. The system comes standard with navigation, and users can add SiriusXM satellite radio and HD Radio. Unfortunately, neither Apple CarPlay nor Android Auto are available for the Ford Transit.
Safety
Like other full-size commercial vans, the Ford Transit Cargo Van does not get crash-tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, so no scores are available.
Standard driver-assistance features for 2024 include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Options include parking sensors, a 360-degree view camera, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, intersection assist, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.
Ford Transit Cargo Van vs. the Competition
The Ford Transit Cargo Van stands out as one of the most refined and modern cargo vans, with a comfortable interior, robust platform options, and a wide range of configurations. There are other heavyweights in its class, though. The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Cargo Van is the most luxurious van in the segment. Mercedes' legendary build quality and high-tech amenities put it a cut above the competition. The Sprinter also has the best off-road abilities in its class. The Sprinter is more expensive than its rivals, though. The Ram ProMaster offers excellent versatility and a sturdy platform, with straightforward driver controls and top-notch interior space, making it a popular platform for RVs. The Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana deliver pickup truck-like strength and up to 10,000 pounds of towing, but both vans are outdated and offer few body style configurations.

The Starting Market Average is a proprietary mathematical calculation based on actual recent transactions. It provides a statistically accurate understanding of what other buyers are paying for the least expensive configuration of this vehicle. Adjustments to the calculation beyond make, model, and trim are normalized based on detailed, anonymized transaction information. This accounts for the fact that most or all recently-sold vehicles included different option combinations. The data underlying the Starting Market Average calculation are filtered for extreme outliers and subjected to a weighted averaging process that considers factors such as the recency of transactions and the timing of data lags. In certain instances, the calculated result is adjusted to take account of abrupt changes in the market that may not yet be fully reflected by recent transaction prices. In all cases where the Starting Market Average is shown there is sufficient sample size and transaction detail to be statistically reliable.
