What's New for 2021
Trims and Pricing
Ford offers the Transit Connect Wagon in XL, XLT, and Titanium trim levels. Front-wheel-drive and an automatic transmission are included, and buyers can select between symmetrical rear doors or a liftgate.
Pricing starts around $27,500 for the XL trim, with safety features like standard automatic emergency braking and rear parking sensors. The Transit Connect has steel wheels, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, vinyl upholstery, folding second- and third-row seats, remote keyless entry, tri-zone climate control, a four-speaker sound system, a WiFi hotspot, and a 4.2-inch screen with Bluetooth.
The mid-level XLT adds more safety equipment for about $30,000, like blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, and lane-keep assist. Other amenities are cloth upholstery, a power driver’s seat, floor mats, a 6.5-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, six speakers, voice controls, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
The Titanium trim is almost fully-loaded for around $32,000. It has leather upholstery, heated front seats, keyless ignition, alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, vinyl cabin trim, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a nine-speaker audio system, HD Radio, and navigation.
Ford offers shoppers optional extras to enhance passenger comfort and safety on the road. These include a panoramic fixed glass roof, including a power shade and roof rails. Remote engine start is available, as is a cockpit-style mid-vehicle overhead console. Buyers can add adaptive cruise control and a forward sensing system for more peace of mind in city traffic and parking.
The available Trailer Tow Package increases the van’s towing capacity to 2,000 lbs.
Engine and Performance
The Transit Connect is powered by a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel-drive. The van has surprising agility for getting around town with ease. Four-wheel disc brakes with ventilated front discs help bring the vehicle to a stop quickly.
The Transit’s motor produces 150 horsepower and 144 lb-ft of torque. Its fuel economy surpasses larger commercial vans, returning an EPA-estimated 24 mpg in city driving and 29 mpg on the highway. It runs on regular unleaded fuel and has a 15.8-gallon fuel tank capacity.
Interior
Ford’s interior layout is unmatched in the compact van category. The available Sync infotainment screen sits atop the dashboard, providing straightforward access and easy-to-use menus. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto offer smartphone owners unrivaled media options. The low dashboard and upright seats allow for excellent outward visibility out of the expansive windshield and windows. Seat comfort also leads the class, with plenty of support and available power-adjustment and heat. The Titanium trim’s leather upholstery adds a touch of luxury.
Narrower and less lengthy than a Toyota Camry, the Transit Connect has compact proportions for quickly getting into tight parking spots and small side streets. Its impressively roomy inside despite the practical outer dimensions, with superb headroom in all three rows of seating. It can transport up to six people in comfort, with decent legroom even in the rearmost row. The cabin is highly configurable -- owners can flip down the front passenger seat to make a large laptop tray, and the back seats fold nearly flat for expanded storage space. This allows it to have incredible cargo capacity with the seats folded down. Standard cargo space stands at 24.9 cubic feet; folding down the third- and second- rows expands that to 60.1 and 106 cubic feet, respectively. It gives the van great flexibility for transporting people and goods.
