Modern and rugged exterior styling; Surprisingly spacious for its compact dimensions; Available V6 offers plenty of power
Snug 12.8-cubic-foot cargo area; Base engine lacks power
The GMC Acadia is a strong-performing mid-sized utility that caters to those seeking a spacious crossover with a more luxurious feel. The Acadia comes in several trims including the bold new AT4 trim as well as the more opulent Denali. It launched with the 2007 model year, but the current second-generation debuted in 2017.
What's New for 2020
Trims and Pricing
There are plenty of choices with the Acadia, considering GMC offers it in five trims: SL, SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali.
The entry-level SL trim starts around $30,000 and includes key elements like automatic LED headlights, heated side mirrors, cloth seating, proximity keyless entry, a leather steering wheel, Bluetooth, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
The SLE comes with a price tag around $34,000 and adds blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert, satellite radio, and more.
The SLT trim comes with an estimated $40,000 starting price. It features details like fog lights, a hands-free power liftgate, leather seating, heated front seats, remote engine start, and a universal garage door opener.
The AT4 retails for about $42,500 and adds black exterior accents and a V6 engine.
At about $46,500, the Denali has details like lane-keep assist, memory folding mirrors, heated/cooled front seats with power lumbar, heated second-row seats, driver-seat memory, a heated steering wheel, HD radio, a Bose audio system, and navigation.
Engine and Performance
The SL, SLE, and SLT all share a 193-horsepower 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engine. It uses a 9-speed automatic transmission. The EPA estimates, with front-wheel-drive, they should return 23 mpg combined. All-wheel drive is an option.
The AT4 and Denali get a more powerful 3.6 liter V6. It churns out 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. These trims also get a 9-speed automatic. All-wheel-drive is standard on the AT4 and available on the Denali.
Interior
With the Acadia, interior color scheme choices include Jet Black, Dark Ash Gray/Light Ash Gray, Cocoa/Light Ash Gray, and Cocoa/Shale. Interior materials are of good quality, with plenty of soft-touch surfaces to add a more premium feel. In SLT and Denali trims, the feeling is close to that of a luxury SUV.
Cabin space is ample. The first and second rows are spacious enough for taller passengers. The front seats feature more contouring and padding than the other two rows. The cargo area is small but includes an under-floor compartment that’s great for stashing items out of sight or putting them where they won’t roll around.
