2021 GMC Savana Passenger Review

Overview
Reasonable starting price; Heavy-duty platform; Seating for up to 15 people
Outdated styling; No infotainment system; Few driver-assistance systems
When maximum seating space is the priority, few vehicles on the market match the GMC Savana Passenger. The full-size van is ready for the next road trip with the extended family, with seating for up to 15 people. It also makes a great hotel shuttle. Behind the passenger area, the Savana has excellent cargo space. GMC offers little in the way of cabin technology, and the Savana is starting to feel its age, but it remains a capable passenger van.
What's New for 2021
Trims and Pricing
Pricing starts at around $38,500 for the base LS trim with vinyl upholstery, power windows, air conditioning, a WiFi hotspot, a full-size spare tire, and seating for 12 people. Shoppers can select an extended wheelbase for additional cargo space or seating for 15 passengers. Additionally, the standard 2500 heavy-duty platform can be upgraded to a burlier 3500 frame, giving the Savana a higher payload capacity.
The LT trim is priced from around $41,000. It adds cloth upholstery, lane-departure warning, an anti-theft system, remote keyless entry, and floor mats.
Savana shoppers can add things like cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and heavy-duty trailering equipment. A remote engine starter is also available. Optional safety features include a dual-note horn, blind-spot monitoring, and forward-collision warning.
Engine and Performance
The Savana comes standard with a 4.3-liter V6 engine producing 276 hp and 298 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. For more power, GMC recently added an optional 6.6-liter V8 making 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque, with its own 6-speed automatic.
The Savana has a maximum towing capacity of 9,600 lbs when properly equipped. Its fuel economy is not rated by the EPA, but it is expected to lag more modern rivals with smaller engines.
