2021 Honda Insight Review

Overview
Top-notch interior design and comfort; Fuel efficiency and low price add value; Many standard driver assists; User-friendly technology
Less cargo space than rivals; All-wheel-drive not available; Could use more horsepower
Hybrids are all the rage these days, but not everyone wants to look like they are driving one. The Honda Insight is a plug-in hybrid car that achieves exceptional fuel economy while looking and driving very similar to a non-hybrid. A starting price of around $23,000 includes seating for five, and an EPA combined 52 mpg. Some rivals have more standard safety aids and cargo space. The third-generation Insight launched in 2019.

Trims and Pricing
Honda makes the Insight in three trims -- LX, EX, and Touring, each a step up in technology and features.
The well-equipped LX, which has a starting price of about $23,000, has many standard conveniences. Exterior highlights include automatic LED headlights, LED taillights, heated power-adjustable side mirrors, and proximity keyless entry. Adaptive cruise control and forward-collision warning are among the many standard driver assistance systems. The LX’s cabin has automatic climate control, one-touch front windows, ambient lighting, rear air vents, push-button ignition, a six-speaker audio system, and Bluetooth streaming audio.
Ringing in at around $25,000, the Insight EX adds blind-spot monitoring, a 60/40 split and center armrest for the rear seats, an upgraded audio system, a larger infotainment screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, HD radio, and two USB ports.
Finally, the Touring trim has a roughly-$29,000 starting price and adds LED turn indicators to the side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, LED fog lights, a power moonroof, dual-zone climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated front seats, leather upholstery, a 450-watt premium audio system with ten speakers, a mobile WiFi hotspot, a digital compass, and turn-by-turn navigation.
Engine and Performance
Interior
Like the rest of the car, the Insight’s interior feels like that of a comfortable family sedan. Shoppers can choose between an all-black interior color scheme or a black and mocha two-tone layout. The interior design is like that of other modern Hondas, with an attractive design and a simple array of knobs and buttons. The infotainment system works reasonably well.
The quality of materials used in the cabin is very good for a non-luxury model. Craftsmanship is high as well, making the Insight feel solid. The seats are supportive and soft, though they’re not as contoured as those of the larger Honda Accord. Front and rear space are on the higher end, making this an excellent vehicle for taller adults. The cargo area is about average.
