2019 Hyundai Elantra Review

Overview
Quiet and unruffled ride; Tasteful and spacious interior; Sensational warranty
Base engine lacks pizzazz
The Hyundai Elantra is a compact sedan aimed at people who want an economical and stylish way to get around. Hyundai first launched the Elantra back in 1992. The current fifth generation launched with the 2017 model.
What's New for 2019
Trims and Pricing
Five trim levels are available for the Elantra: SE, SEL, Value Edition, Eco, and Limited. Standard equipment for the SE includes steel 15-inch wheels, power windows, power locks, air conditioning, an adjustable steering wheel, 60/40 split-folding rear seats, six speakers, CD player and satellite radio. A rearview backup camera is also standard equipment, and automatic transmission models receive standard cruise control.
The SEL gains extra safety features such as blind spot and rear cross-traffic collision warning. Also included on the SEL is forward collision-avoidance, along with an upgraded 7-inch display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability.
The Value Edition builds on the SEL with a power sunroof and push button start.
Equipment for the Eco is almost the same as the SE with the Popular Equipment and Tech packages.
The Limited tops the lineup with 17-inch alloy wheels, chrome exterior trim, LED headlights, leather upholstery, heated front seats, wireless charging, and an Infinity audio system.
An Elantra comes with a factory invoice of about $16,000 for an SE model and an MSRP of about $17,000. The SEL adds about $1,000 to the MSRP, with the Value Edition and Eco adding an additional $1,000 to the price tag. The Limited tacks on about $2,000 more to the sticker price. Being a member means you can get a fair price, save money and not deal with any kind of hassle when going to your Certified Dealer.
Engine and Performance
The standard engine for the SE and Limited trims is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that whips out 147 horsepower and 132 lb.-ft. of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard on the SE, while a six-speed automatic is optional for the SE and standard on the SEL, Value, and Limited trim levels. Front-wheel drive is standard on all trims.
Eco models get a turbo 1.4-liter four-cylinder that puts out 128 horsepower and 156 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s mated to a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.
Interior
Hyundai has done an excellent job of crafting an attractive, high-class cabin for the Elantra. Drivers enjoy large displays and physical controls, making it easy to find what's needed while traveling down the road. Still, some of the switchgear isn't very ergonomically designed.
With the new generation, the Elantra has grown a little in size. It's about an inch wider and longer, which translates into a little more room for rear seat passengers. Still, taller adults might find riding in the back a little too tight. Ironically, the trunk space is a little less than before at 14.4 cubic feet. On the plus side, the seats are padded and supportive enough to make them enjoyable for fairly long rides.
