2018 Hyundai Sonata Review

Overview
The Hyundai Sonata is a quality option for customers in the market for a mid-sized sedan, especially those looking for a good deal in the price department. It’s made strides over the years and its quality is now also on a similar level to the competition.
Those looking for a sportier ride or a few more interior options also now have those available from the factory.
The Hyundai Sonata is one of Hyundai’s best-known vehicles due to its long run of production dating back to 1985 worldwide and the 1989 model year in the United States. It’s a mid-sized car for value-minded drivers.
What's New for 2018
Trims and Pricing
The Hyundai Sonata is available in three trim levels: the GLS, the SE and the Limited.
The GLS is the base model, while the SE adds some sporty options for performance and styling. The Limited provides a more luxurious interior.
When it comes to pricing, the GLS has an MSRP in the high $21,000 range. The SE falls in the low $24,000 range with an optional engine upgrade that bumps the price up to the mid $25,000 range.
The Limited starts around the mid-to-high $26,000 range and again the optional turbocharged engine sends the MSRP higher, into the low $28,000 range.
Membership includes up front pricing, guaranteed savings and a hassle-free experience purchasing with a certified dealer.
Engine and Performance
All three trim levels come equipped with a standard 2.4-liter gasoline direct injection four-cylinder engine with a dual overhead camshaft. It checks in at 198 horsepower at 6,300 RPM and 184 pound-feet of torque at 4,250 RPM.
The SE and Limited trim levels offer the option of upgrading to a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline direct injection four-cylinder engine. It produces 274 horsepower at 6,000 RPM and 269 pound-feet of torque at 1,750 to 4,500 RPM.
All three trim levels are front-wheel drive vehicles with a six-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC. The SE has standard paddle shifters mounted to the steering wheel. SHIFTRONIC is Hyundai’s sport shifter that allows the driver to manually upshift and downshift by moving the shift lever over to another shift gate. While the driver can avoid the programmed shift points, it is not possible to red line the engine or stall the car.
All three trim levels also have Active ECO System, a push-button feature that improves fuel mileage by smoothing out the throttle response.
According to the EPA, the 2.4-liter engine gets 24 miles per gallon in the city, 35 miles per gallon on the highway and a combined 28 miles per gallon. The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine gets 22 miles per gallon in the city, 34 miles per gallon on the highway and a combined 26 miles per gallon.
Interior
All of the trim levels of the Hyundai Sonata are available in the same eight colors.
Starting with those that fall into the grayscale spectrum, Shimmering White is a bright option that stands out a bit from your usual white cars. A little darker is the Radiant Silver paint scheme, followed by Harbor Gray Metallic and Midnight Black.
There are also three shades of blue available. The lightest is Iridescent Silver Blue Pearl, followed by the deep blues of Indigo Night and the deep, dark Pacific Blue Pearl.
Last but not least is Sparkling Ruby, a rich, darker than average red.
All of the trim levels are available in gray interiors and all but the GLS offer black, while the GLS, Limited and Limited 2.0T offer Camel as well. Wine is available on the Limited and Limited 2.0T. Camel is a shade of beige, while Wine is a burgundy color.
