2018 Hyundai Tucson Review

Overview
If you're in need of an inexpensive urban vehicle that provides a little utility, the Hyundai Tucson isn't a bad choice to consider. Admittedly, the base SE's engine struggles to get up steep hills or merge on the freeway, but the engine for the other trims is much smoother. Ride quality is pretty comfortable. Where the Tucson shines is size, because it has a smaller footprint than many alternatives. You really need to driver the crossover to know whether the pluses and minuses will appeal to you. Top competing vehicles for the Hyundai Tucson are the Honda HR-V, Nissan Rogue and Jeep Renegade.
The Hyundai Tucson is a subcompact crossover aimed at people who desire utility, plus an easily maneuverable vehicle. Hyundai first launched the Tucson in 2005. The current third generation started with the 2016 model year.

Trims and Pricing
Hyundai offers four trim levels for the Tucson: SE, Eco, Sport and Limited. The SE is well-appointed with 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, LED headlight accents, privacy glass, heated side mirrors, a rear roof-mounted spoiler, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, power locks, a trip computer, cloth upholstery that resists staining, a 60/40 split-folding rear row, Bluetooth connectivity, tilt and telescoping steering wheel adjustment, a 5-inch infotainment touchscreen, a rearview camera, a sound system with six speakers, CD player, USB port, satellite radio and an auxiliary audio input jack. With the Eco, buyers also get front foglights, LED daytime running lights, roof rails and a power-adjustable driver's seat. Going with the Sport trim upgrades the wheels to 19-inches. Additional standard equipment includes a power liftgate with hands-free operation, keyless entry/ignition, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, front seat heaters and more active safety technologies. The top-of-the-line Limited is loaded with LED headlights and taillights, leather upholstery, upgraded cabin trim pieces, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, rear air vents, a dual-zone automatic climate control system, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, the Blue Link telematics system, navigation, an 8-inch touchscreen and a sound system with eight speakers. Exclusive to the Limited is an available Ultimate package. It bundles together rear parking sensors, adaptive xenon headlights, a panoramic sunroof, a full-color trip computer, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, lane departure warning and forward collision mitigation. A Tucson comes with a factory invoice of about $24,000 for an SE model and an MSRP of about $26,000. The Eco trim level adds about $2,000 to the vehicle’s MSRP, and the Sport increases it by about another $3,000. Finally, the Limited increases the MSRP by about another $2,000. When you're a member, your Certified Dealer treats you with respect as you shop. That means guaranteed savings and a hassle-free experience you'll love.
Engine and Performance
Standard on the SE is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 164 horsepower and 151 lb.-ft. of torque. It works with a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is available. The other three trims work with a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, which cranks out 175 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission is standard. Front-wheel drive is also standard, with all-wheel drive available.
Interior
Instead of some of the controversial and wild styling elements found in the previous generation, the new Tucson has a much more refined look and feel. Controls and gauges are spaced out and grouped in optimal locations, making them pretty easy to operate while going down the road. Materials leave a little to be desired, with too many hard plastic surfaces on touch points. The Limited model does have more soft surfaces, which helps create a more luxurious feel. The front and rear seats are actually pretty comfortable, even for longer trips. Space in the rear is improved, which means taller adults can sit back there in relative comfort. Cargo capacity is 31 cubic feet, or 61.9 cubic feet with the second-row seats folded down. When it comes to the infotainment system, it could be improved. The standard 5-inch screen has mediocre resolution, making it difficult to read some menus while on the move. The menus are simple and easy to learn, which helps make up for those shortcomings. Going with the Limited brings the much larger screen, which boosts the experience to a more satisfactory level.
