2020 Hyundai Venue Review

Overview
Roomy interior for a subcompact SUV; Standard lane-keep assist, forward collision-avoidance; Starting price under $18,000; EPA-rated fuel economy of 32 mpg combined
No available all-wheel-drive; In-brand competition from the more powerful Kona; Some rivals offer more luxurious interiors
Many SUV shoppers have come to want small crossovers with car-like driving, comfort, and fuel economy, while still having extra ride height and the versatility of a liftgate. Enter the Hyundai Venue. New for 2020, the Venue is Hyundai’s second subcompact crossover, after the Kona. But whereas the Hawaiian-named model is sportier, the Venue is boxy. It comes standard with lane-keep assist, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, despite a low price.
What's New for 2020
Trims and Pricing
Small and stylish. A tight turning radius and standard forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection. The Hyundai Venue seems to be built for city living and driving. Its squared-off architecture helps the driver have more control while parking and navigating narrow streets. At under 160 inches long, 62 inches tall, and 70 inches wide, it’s one of the smallest SUVs on the market.
The Venue comes in three trim levels: SE, SEL, and Denim.
The SE model is the entry-level trim and is available either with a one-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. Key features include a forward-collision warning system, pedestrian detection, a system that helps keep the vehicle inside its lane, an 8-inch color touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, cloth seating, and air conditioning. It retails for around $17,500.
The SEL starts around $19,500 and adds features like rear disc brakes, automatic climate control, a driving mode selector with snow mode, two USB chargers, and roof rails.
Sporting a unique blue exterior and interior, the top-of-the-line Denim model comes in at about $22,000. Its seats are a cloth-leatherette combo. It also adds navigation, 17-inch wheels, LED daytime running lights, and blind-spot collision warning with rear cross-traffic collision warning.
Engine and Performance
Interior
The Venue makes the most of its size, with a roomy interior that’s about on par with other subcompacts. The cabin is easy to understand, with large HVAC dials and a generous 8-inch screen. That monitor allows for easy observation when using the rearview camera or Apple CarPlay.
The Venue seats five people and has an 18.7 cubic foot cargo area, which is typical for the category. The Venue somehow has more ground clearance, a lower total height, and more headroom than many competitors, quite an impressive trick on Hyundai’s part.
