2019 Kia Sedona Review

Overview
Competitive pricing; Communicative steering; Comfortable seating
Slow acceleration; Could use a softer ride
The Kia Sedona is a minivan that offers three rows of seating, making it a good option for families. Kia originally launched the Sedona in 2002, with the 2015 model launching the second generation.
What's New for 2019
Trims and Pricing
Kia makes the Sedona in five trims: L, LX, EX, SX, and SX-L. All trim levels come with seven seats standard, while the EX comes with eight. LX and SX models can have the eighth seat added as an option.
Standard equipment for the L includes 17-inch steel wheels, rear parking sensors, dual sliding doors, manual front seat adjustment, Slide-n-Stow second-row captain's chairs, split folding third row seats, two gloveboxes, stain resistant fabric upholstery, air conditioning, power windows, power locks, cruise control, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, Bluetooth connectivity, and a sound system with USB port, four speakers, CD player, and satellite radio.
LX models add to the features list with LED accents for the headlights, 17-inch allow wheels, power folding side mirrors, roof rails, rear privacy glass, rearview camera, power adjustable driver's seat, six speakers for the sound system, and an Uvo eServices telematics system.
An LX Convenience package adds heated front seats, a refrigerated glovebox, seats for eight passengers, power sliding doors, and manual rear sunshades.
For the EX trim, even more standard equipment is added. This includes better LED headlight accents, 18-inch alloy wheels, heated side mirrors, fog lights, power liftgate, power sliding side doors, keyless entry and ignition, leather upholstery, driver info display, refrigeration on the lower glovebox, automatic dimming rearview mirror, tri zone automatic climate control, remote garage door opener, manual rear sunshades, Infinity sound system with eight speakers, HD radio, and two rapid-charge USB ports.
There is an EX Premium package that comes with driver memory settings, heated first- and second-row seats, power adjustable front passenger seat, plus blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alerts.
Things get even nicer for the SX with LED taillights, driver memory settings, power adjustable front passenger seat, heated seats on the first two rows, ventilation on the front seats, upgraded leather upholstery, color driver info display, drive modes, upgraded 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, voice controls, plus blind zone monitoring system with rear cross traffic alert.
The top-of-the-line SX-L adds 19-inch wheels, wood trimmed and heated steering wheel, parking sensors in the front, wood trim for the interior, and lounge seats with leg rests for the second row.
A Technology package is available only for SX-L models and adds a surround-view parking system, xenon headlights, automatic high beams, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and a forward collision warning system.
Two a la carte options are available: a rear seat entertainment system, and a tow hitch.
A Sedona comes with a factory invoice of about $24,000 for an L model and an MSRP of about $25,000. The LX trim level adds about $2,000 to the vehicle’s MSRP and the EX tacks on about another $5,000. The SX contributes about $3,000 more to the vehicle's MSRP and the SX-L contributes about another $4,000. Being a member has some clear advantages, like your Certified Dealer giving you a no-hassle price offer that saves you money and is easy to understand.
Engine and Performance
The only engine available for the Sedona is a 3.3-liter V-6 that puts out 276 horsepower and 248 lb.-ft. of torque. It is coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. If the optional hitch has been installed, the Sedona has a tow capacity of 3,500 pounds.
The EPA estimates fuel economy at 18 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined.
Interior
Buyers can choose a few options for upholstery and accent color for the interior, including beige, dark brown and black. The overall layout of the interior is modern yet conservative, with Kia keeping it refreshingly simple. This means the controls are well-spaced and organized, making them easy to use. The same can be said of the gauge cluster and infotainment screen. Touches like a full console between the front seats and the shifter located in the console help give the vehicle a more crossover feel, making it different from other minivans. Materials are of surprisingly high quality, just like in other recently overhauled Kia vehicles. Fit and finish is also a cut above most other mainstream brands.
There is plenty of space throughout the interior, with all three rows providing legroom and headroom for even tall adults. The second-row seats on the SX-L are incredibly nice and like nothing currently found in other minivans, but taller passengers will find they don't have enough room to use the leg rests. Cargo space is decent with 33.9 cubic feet behind the third row. That expands to 78.4 cubic feet with the third row folded down. Folding down the second row makes for 142 cubic feet of space. Manually folding and unfolding the second-row seats requires a little too much effort when compared to other minivans.
