2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Crew Van Review

Overview
Impressive cabin quality and technology; Plenty of space for passengers and heavy cargo; Many available body styles and optional extras
More expensive than other full-size vans; Some rivals include a greater towing capacity
The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Crew Van can carry five people and vast amounts of cargo, making it one of the best choices on the market for businesses reliant on teams of workers. Turbocharged gas and diesel engines offer fuel-efficient transport, while configurable body styles help customers select the right dimensions for their needs. Though it is pricey, few rivals can match the Mercedes-Benz in cabin quality or available technology features.
What's New for 2020
Trims and Pricing
The Crew Van shares many of its components with the Sprinter Passenger and Sprinter Cargo vans, slotting nicely between the two in seating and cargo capacity. It's available in three heavy-duty rear-wheel-drive platforms -- 2500, 3500, and 4500 -- and shoppers can opt for an extended wheelbase, four-wheel-drive, and a taller roof height.
Pricing starts around $39,500-$57,000, depending on the platform, engine type, and body style. Standard features include an automatic transmission, disc brakes, Hill Start Assist, 16-inch steel wheels, a full-size spare tire, a backup camera, automatic headlights, intermittent front/rear wipers, and daytime running lights. In the cabin, there is cloth upholstery, automatic front windows, front bucket seats, a removable second-row bench seat, keyless entry/ignition, front/rear air conditioning, a five-speaker audio system, Bluetooth hands-free calling/audio, a USB port, and a 5.8-inch infotainment screen.
The Sprinter offers rare optional technology for a commercial van, like a 10.25-inch touchscreen and wireless smartphone charging. There are several cutting-edge driver safety features to choose from, including lane-keep assist, a surround-view camera, and adaptive cruise control. Other notable amenities include heated front seats, LED headlights, power sliding doors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an emergency flashlight.
Engine and Performance
Interior
Like other commercial vans, the Sprinter has a straightforward and practical cabin. The simple dashboard controls, extensive use of heavy-duty plastics, and lack of typical family vehicle amenities immediately make it known that this is a work vehicle above all. But unlike other full-size vans, the Sprinter has a sense of interior refinement hard to find elsewhere, with high-quality controls and switches that feel right out of an entry-level Mercedes-Benz car. Vehicles like this often get a lot of mileage put on them, and the Sprinter's cabin is a pleasant place to spend hours on end.
Passenger space is excellent in both rows. Behind the Sprinter's removable second-row bench seat is a 222.5 cubic-foot cargo space. With the extended wheelbase and tall roof height, there are 370.8 cubic feet of capacity. The standard roof model has a 65.3-inch interior height, while the tall roof increases that to 76.7 inches.
Several of the Sprinter's optional technologies are hard to find on other vans, like an available 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone charging, and a 360-degree camera system. The Sprinter has one of the most generous options lists of any full-size van, allowing even further configuration of the already-versatile Crew Van. Mercedes-Benz also offers upfit solutions for recreation or business use.
