2021 Nissan NV Cargo Review

Overview
Vast cargo capacity; Heavy-duty platforms; Excellent acceleration; Comfortable ride
All-wheel-drive is not available; Starting to feel outdated; Limited tech options
When it comes to transporting equipment and products, many businesses choose full-size vans for their unrivaled interior storage capacity, and the Nissan NV Cargo is an excellent option in that respect. Released in 2012, Nissan's largest van can carry up to 323.1 cubic feet of cargo, with a maximum payload capacity of nearly two tons. Buyers can outfit the interior with a range of racks and cabinets to fit their commercial needs.
What's New for 2021
Trims and Pricing
Nissan builds the NV Cargo in three equipment levels: S, SV, and SL. The brand also makes it easy for businesses to select a platform to fit their needs, with light-duty and heavy-duty options. Rear-wheel-drive comes standard, giving the NV Cargo good agility for maneuvering around city streets.
The base S trim starts around $31,000, coming standard with an automatic transmission for straightforward driving, plus four-wheel disc brakes that bring the vehicle to a halt promptly. The NV also comes with a backup camera, manual-folding side mirrors, and adaptive steering to help with nighttime driving and parking. Inside, passengers will find dual bucket seats upholstered in cloth, air conditioning, a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth for music and phone calls, and remote keyless entry.
The SV, priced from $32,000, helps make workday travel more comfortable and convenient, with cruise control, an upgraded audio system, power side mirrors, and rear parking sensors.
The SL model retails from roughly $40,000, only available in the heavy-duty/high roof configuration. It includes navigation, heated side mirrors, a power driver's seat, a household-style power outlet, and an alarm.
Nissan offers shoppers several options for the NV Cargo, like a rear-door glass package that adds glass windows to the tailgate doors. Buyers can also add technology like satellite radio and navigation to any trim.
Engine and Performance
Buyers of the NV Cargo have a couple of options when it comes to power. The base 4.0-liter V6 engine produces 261 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. It is matched to a five-speed automatic transmission and offers a maximum payload of 3,280 lbs.
Heavy-duty models come with a 5.6-liter V8 that provides excellent power around town and on the highway. It produces 375 hp and 387 lb-ft of torque, and it's mated to a seven-speed transmission. Max payload increases to 3,850 lbs.
Interior
Like other cargo vans, the NV offers a no-nonsense and straightforward cabin for a driver and one passenger. The standard cloth upholstery is water- and wear-resistant, and premium-feeling vinyl trim is available. Base models include air conditioning and heat, while upper trims feature amenities like navigation, heated mirrors, and cruise control. Some competitors provide more tech options, but the NV should suit the needs of most businesses.
The NV's cargo area is a blank slate for customization. Shoppers can equip the interior with a range of ladder racks and storage boxes, making it an ideal choice for electricians, delivery services, caterers, and contractors. The wide cargo floor allows for easy access to cargo, and six floor-mounted D-rings help secure heavier items. Square-top wheel housings and minimalist side walls provide room for 10-foot piping or 4x8-foot drywall.
