2022 Nissan Rogue Sport Review

Overview
The Rogue Sport is an alternative to the more roomy Nissan Rogue and the slightly smaller Nissan Kicks. It's a city-efficient crossover that manages congested roads and narrow streets with ease. Despite its smaller dimensions, there's a surprising amount of room for cargo whether you're hauling groceries or supplies for a weekend project. It's a great choice for buyers who want a little extra room, but don't need the larger dimensions and extra seating of a full-size SUV. The Rogue Sport also has a wide range of standard safety and technology features. The rear seats, however, are relatively tight. Also, it provides limited engine power. Handling is good and there's an option for all-wheel drive.
The Subaru Crosstrek has more horsepower, higher safety ratings, and an available hybrid. The Hyundai Tucson is more comfortable with a larger rear seat, more powerful engine, and a hybrid option. The Chevrolet Trailblazer has a lower price, but also has less cargo space and less horsepower.
Good standard safety. Large cargo capacity. Great value.
Small rear seats. Modest acceleration.
The Rogue Sport is a fuel-efficient compact crossover with good cargo capacity and a comfortable interior. It also has many standard technology and safety features. However, it is underpowered compared to its rivals.
What's New for 2022
Trims and Pricing
The 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport is available in three trim levels: S, SV, and SL. Front-wheel drive is standard; all-wheel drive is available for an additional $1,500. The most popular trim is the S, but we prefer the SV. We'll explain why.
S
With a starting price of $25,685 (including a $1,150 destination fee), the Rogue Sport S is a very good value. Standard features include a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, continuously variable automatic transmission, 17-inch wheels, a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, cruise control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, intelligent lane intervention, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, forward-collision warning, and rear automatic braking. All-wheel drive is available.
SV
Priced at $27,255, the SV is our recommended pick because of its significantly longer list of standard features and modest price. The SV trim adds heated side mirrors, roof rails, dual-zone automatic temperature control, push-button start, an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat with two-way lumbar support, premium cloth seats, heated front seats and steering wheel, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and an upgraded audio system. An optional Technology package includes a driver-assist system with adaptive cruise control and surround-view camera, electronic parking brake, parking assist, and imitation leather seats.
SL
The top-of-the-line SL is priced at $30,315. It comes with 19-inch wheels, leather seats, navigation, a driver-assist system with adaptive cruise control and surround-view camera, parking assist, and traffic sign recognition. Options include a Premium package with LED headlights, a four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, fog lights, a power moonroof, automatic dimming rearview mirror, and a Bose audio system.

Infotainment and Connectivity
The Nissan Rogue Sport's standard infotainment system is adequate. It includes a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a four-speaker audio system. The system is simple to use and connected quickly to our phone. Options include navigation and a Bose premium audio system. For a larger touchscreen, consider the Hyundai Tucson, which comes with a standard 8-inch or an optional 10.25-inch touchscreen.
The Chevrolet Trailblazer also has a 7-inch screen. The standard screen in the Subaru Crosstrek is even smaller.
Safety
The 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport has not yet been fully tested by the (NHTSA), but received a four-star rating out of five-stars in frontal crash and rollover risk tests. It has not yet been tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, rear automatic braking, lane-departure warning, lane intervention, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert. Options include a driver-assist system with adaptive cruise control and surround view camera.
Nissan Rogue Sport vs. the Competition
The Rogue Sport is an affordable, comfortable, and well-equipped compact crossover. It's attractive inside and out, and it delivers zippy handling, responsive steering, and a smooth ride. With just 141 horsepower, it won't win any drag races, but it's a solid highway cruiser. It's fuel efficient and easy to park. Also, it has a comfortable interior and impressive cargo capacity. Although we prefer the interior design of the Subaru Crosstrek, the cool new exterior design of the Hyundai Tucson, and the low price of the Chevrolet Trailblazer, the Nissan Rogue Sport provides a nice overall package. It's a good choice for budget-conscious buyers looking for a versatile crossover with a wide range of standard features and safety tech.
