2019 Toyota Prius c Review

Overview
The Toyota Prius c can bring the advantages of a hybrid vehicle like the Prius into a new market of buyers who might have previously been priced out. While the interior features of the Prius c might not be on par with some of the rest of Toyota’s lineup, they should compare favorably to many similarly priced cars.
In addition, the options available as you step up in trim level bring additional value without too much of an increase to the price tag. It’s hard to imagine that there is much out there in the hybrid sector of the new car market that can offer better value.
Superb fuel economy; Subcompact size makes it a snap to park; Toyota build quality
Larger Prius gets slightly better combined mpg; Slow acceleration; Austere interior
The “c,” at the end of Toyota Prius c stands for city, and the vehicle is a subcompact hatchback that is a fully hybrid gas and electric powered vehicle. It has been in production since 2011, so it is a younger sibling (in size and age) to the Toyota Prius.
What's New for 2019
Trims and Pricing

The top of the line Toyota Prius c Four has 15-inch eight spoke alloy wheels, heated power outside mirrors, integrated fog lights, Display Audio with Navigation and Entune and SofTex trim for the front seats, which are also heated.
The Toyota Prius c One has an MSRP in the mid-to-high $19,000 range, while the Toyota Prius c Two checks in with a price in the low $20,000 range. The Toyota Prius c Three has a sticker price in the high $21,000 range, and the Toyota Prius c Four has a low-$23,000 price range.
Members receive the benefit of guaranteed savings and up front pricing, and they also can enjoy a no-hassle purchasing experience with a certified dealer.
Engine and Performance
All four trim levels have a standard 1.5-liter aluminum dual overhead camshaft gas engine with variable valve timing with intelligence. This gas portion produces 73 horsepower at 4,800 RPM and 82 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 RPM. The electric motor is a permanent magnet AC synchronous motor, which puts out 60 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque on its own. Together the gas/electric hybrid system produces a peak of 99 net horsepower. The battery is a sealed nickel-metal hydride battery.
The Prius c has front-wheel drive and an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission.
The Prius c is rated at 53 miles per gallon in the city, 46 miles per gallon on the highway and 50 miles per gallon combined.
Interior
Some of the standard interior features for all trim levels include automatic climate control, a 3.5-inch TFT multi-information display, digital instrumentation, power windows, power locks, a rear window defogger, a passenger side glove compartment, a 12V auxiliary power outlet in the front, front door storage and assist grips above both the driver and front passenger doors.
The Prius c One has an AM/FM CD player with four speakers in four locations and an auxiliary audio jack. It also offers iPod connectivity and Bluetooth for music streaming and hands-free phone connectivity.
The Prius c Two adds in two more speakers in two additional locations, while the Prius c Three and Prius c Four receive Display Audio with Navigation and Entune. This superior system has a 6.1-inch touch screen, SiriusXM Radio with a free trial, HD Radio with iTunes Tagging, connectivity and control for an iPod and advanced voice recognition, in addition to all of the above features.
