2019 Toyota Yaris Review

Overview
Superb fuel economy; Fun to drive; Nice interior layout; Affordable pricing
Engine could use a little more power
The Toyota Yaris is a subcompact sedan built for people wanting spunky, affordable transportation. Prior to 2019, the sedan was sold under the Yaris iA name plate. There was also a standard Yaris hatchback but that has been dropped. Toyota's defunct sub-brand, Scion, first introduced the Yaris iA for the 2016 model year. The Yaris has sharp handling and an economical engine, making it a compelling commuter.
What's New for 2019
Trims and Pricing
The Yaris Sedan is available in three trim levels: L, LE, and XLE.
For around $16,000, the L trim comes with halogen headlights, 15-inch wheels, variable intermittent wipers, manual air conditioning, cloth upholstery, 6-way driver’s seat, 4-way passenger seat, 60/40 split fold-down rear seats, remote keyless entry, push-button start, a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, and a low-speed emergency braking system.
The LE retails for about $17,000 and adds fog lights, 16-inch wheels, and proximity keyless entry.
The $19,000 XLE trim comes with automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, automatic climate control, leatherette seating, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Engine and Performance
All Yarises employ a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that is rated at 106 hp and 103 lb-ft of torque. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard, and a 6-speed automatic is available. The Yaris is front-wheel drive.
The EPA estimates the Yaris with manual transmission equipped should return 30 city and 39 highway. The automatic Yaris does a tad better, at 32 and 40, respectively.
Interior
The interior of the Yaris is simply laid out, but it has a clean design that beats many subcompacts. The bucket seats are supportive, and all of the controls are nicely within reach.
The Yaris comes standard with an intuitive touchscreen infotainment system, which allows users to change the settings on a wide range of vehicle functions, and it also includes Bluetooth.
