2019 Volkswagen e-Golf Review

Overview
Conventional looks; Hatchback practicality; Quick off the line
Limited EV driving range; Pricier than some rivals
The Volkswagen e-Golf is a four-door compact electric hatchback that is aimed at people who want a practical small electric vehicle. The e-Golf is an all-new model for 2015 and is based on the standard Volkswagen Golf, but features an electric powertrain.
What's New for 2019
Trims and Pricing
Volkswagen makes the e-Golf in a single trim level. Among the standard equipment are 16-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting, heated front seats, 5.8-inch infotainment touchscreen, navigation, synthetic leather upholstery, Bluetooth connectivity, leather wrapped steering wheel, rearview camera, satellite radio and parking sensors in the rear bumper. An e-Golf comes with a factory invoice of about $37,000 and an MSRP of about $39,000. Of course as a member you always receive an upfront price that includes guaranteed savings, as well as a no-hassle car buying experience at your Certified Dealer.
Engine and Performance
The electric motor puts out 115 horsepower and 199 lb.-ft. of torque and works with a single-speed transmission. According to Volkswagen, 0 to 60 mph acceleration takes 10 seconds. Top speed has been limited to 87 mph. Fully charged, the car can be drive about 70 to 90 miles. The e-Golf also has a heat pump to help with range in cold weather conditions. Thanks to a 7.2 kW onboard charge, the car's battery can be replenished in around four hours' time, when the 240-volt charging station is used. If a standard 120v household plug is used, the car takes about 20 hours to recharge. For even more convenience, the hatchback can be used at fast chargers which can replenish 80 percent of the battery in about half an hour.
Interior
One of the best things about the e-Golf is that its interior is pretty much just like any other Golf's. This is thanks to a design that puts the battery underneath the floorboards, keeping it from eating up the cargo or passenger space. The front and rear seats both can easily fit taller adults, which is unique for a vehicle of this size. The overall look of the interior is pretty conservative. Instead of the zany designs and layouts some alternative fuel vehicles have, the e-Golf has a more traditional look. There are a few physical controls in the center console, plus a fairly large infotainment screen that's easy to read. The gauge cluster consists of two analog gauges on either side of a digital driver information center, which can display information about the car's drivetrain. The setup is comfortable and easy to use.
